In the 1780s according to a local information sign the pool was formed by damming the brook to form a canal feeder reservoir. I lived close by from 1950s to late 70s but the pool was used for fishing and access was restricted. When I was old enough to roam I explored the brook (though I didn't know what it was called), but never the pool area. It was renovated in 2013.Thimblemill Brook is now the name of a nature reserve based on Thimblemill Pool at the junction of Norman Road and Thimblemill Lane. It used to be the GKN recreation ground. I see now part of the brook remains unculverted in Stanhope Road, Valley Rd and Broadmore Avenue. But I had no idea that the brook stretched for 3 miles.
