Vesper Bell, Blythe Street and the kent family

If Mary went into a nunnery then she should still appear on records.

Who's wife do you mean, John Anthony Eaton-Kent?

thank you so much for all the information

The consul is there to represent the UK in a foreign country. I am not sure of the difference between embassies and consulates. It may just indicate a different relationship between the countries.
However, as I said earlier I can't find him listed as a diplomat. That is why I think it might have been an abbreviation for working for the British Consul.

what we could do with is marys exact date of birth so seeing the birth certificate could prove useful

thanks for sharing the photos...certainly looks like the same person to me

lyn

I agree Lyn.

I'm not good with ages in old photos (everyone looks older to me) but if it is the same person she doesn't look very young in the non nun photo. She may have had 'a life' before coming a nun.

Just noticed in post #63 that it says Miss Kent on the nun picture, so ignore above.

I am not sure but wonder if she would appear under her "convent name" eg Sr Margaret or similar.
I have just checked the 1939 reg and the nuns at Olton Convent are all listed under their own names not their "convent" name.
The same on 1911 census. so if she is in a convent/nunnery it is most likely under her own name.

Maybe not relevant but interesting maybe

The other son of John Anthony's wife, Anna Dotzauer, changed his name to Dodson and travelled to S America on numerous occasions. He was buried in Santiago, Chile in 1995.

I have no way of knowing if this is the correct person but think it highly likely with the initals G and H after the Anna.

She is mentioned a number of times in the newspapers, mainly in relation to her divorce. I think some of the articles suggest that she was a devout catholic, so can't have been happy about a divorce.

I will have a look.

Interesting. This photo is February 1925. She married John Kent in October 1925 - very speedy if she did not approve of divorce.

As she was religious and Mary Alice was a nun, I wonder if this how she and John knew each other.

Other articles refer to her as Mrs Hannah Maria Dotzauer of Hove but the husband's address is Moor Green Lane which fits the shipping list. Maybe misheard Anna as Hannah??
