GG from the Pheasey, to Scott Arms, turn right, first left, right then a left down Hill Lane,

on page 46 AZ, mind you my latest book is dated 1995 Dave

Alternatively Jean you may gain access opposite the turn to Jayshaw Avenue off the Newton Road or lower down off Pages Lane.

Thanks David now I know exactly how to get there thanks. I have just made contact with an old friend and guess what? "she lives in Jayshaw avenue"?. The park is going to be our next port of call sometime this week. Did Sutton park three times last week so it's a sharp left turn this week. Jean.

Morning Dave. An obviously hand held video don`t know what year it was taken, has anything been done since that was taken?, TLC it needs work. Len.

Many thanks for sharing that movie clip with us.
It's a shame the monument is in such a state of disrepair. The plinth used to have a metal plate (Brass?) showing the features of the landscape for miles around. No doubt removed by thief's for it's metal content. A place frequented by courting couples for generations and an ideal place for the kids to fly their kites.
I understand it's a place for 'Doggin' now, not the dog walking variety that most of us remember it for.

Len just sat down after cleaning my 20 or so tea pots and watched your video. It made me a bit sea sick but I am afraid that place has gone to the dogs [for one reason and another]. We went up a couple of weeks ago to the two farms and afterwards walked the dog over the beacon. We passed a brand spanking Bently with a young man at the wheel [can't mention what he was doing with the young lady] and he had his minder at the front of the car. That was in broad daylight. Mind you there has been an increased pressence lately. Jean.

Len last time up there just the same as the Video, glad someone else has the shakes (smile)
Dave

Visited Barr Beacon and Great Barr Hall today pics in time, they have scaffolding up at the Great Barr Hall, and some work has been done, but was told all work has stopped, a few months ago.

Dave there was some controversy over the hall in our local paper as to what purpose it was going to be used for. Will try and find out why the work has stopped. Jean.

During the war, the direction plate in the dome was removed in case it might be used by german paratroops. I also remember patients from St.Margarets hospital sitting along the wall and waving as you drove past. I remember my Dad telling me he used to take my Mom out for a ride in the country on Sundays on his Ariel motorbike and end up at the old Horns, which was then in the country in the late 1920's.

just came across your pics of barr beacon and would just like to saY THANKS and regards chinny chinn

We are up there again in the week and will try and take photo's of the pools just off the Beacon. They are owned by Foxhills. Jean.

The last time we paid a visit we came across a small pile of ashes with flowers laid beside it. I wasn't sure but thought someone may have put there loved ones in that spot. Well today we found this added to the flowers and ashes and it brought a lump to my throat. Jean.

Last two of Great Barr Hall, one showing the tunnel underground, said to have a few tunnels, one might go the the Old Manor house near the School

Very nice photos Jean, hav,nt been up there since our courting day,s,wow in the 70s
a lovely monument to an old friend a loving pet, who know doubt used to have the time of it,s life running jumping a playing up and around the beacon.
Derek

Chucka, Thanks for reply to my question, I will be on the Somme in a few weeks time, and thought I might be able to take a photo of a grave, but will look for him at Thiepvil.

GG It`s near the new houses, (photo) you might gain access from the new houses, what I believe is the Walled Gardens is on the right if coming from the new houses, before Great Barr Hall further on down the road. I use Chapel Lane and Suttons Drive down to the Gothic Bridge, pics to follow Dave

Dave when we went there last week there was rubbish all over the enclosure and I didn't notice the tree with a name carved on it. Jean.
