Dave, the bridge looks lovely I do hope it survives.....the hall too. Thanks for posting the photo's.

Wendy the Hall and the bridge will be safe, only when the Hall is rebuilt and occupied, but I think that is unlikely, but always Hope Dave

G G where do you get your eggs? at the farm opposite Barr beacon.

Also my best friend worked at Wilkinson and ridell 1965-73 and I had my wedding reception there in the dining room on top floor 1971.

Took these photo's inside the butchers shop Barr Beacon. Well worth a visit. One taken at Wrights egg farm too. Sorry have to downsize them and will put them on later. Leonard the eggs are from a farm in Doebank lane. From the Queslett road side it is on the left just past the wreck playing field. Jean.

Called in today

Leonardjob Wrights the egg farm is closing down in a few weeks when the chickens begin to stop laying. All down to new rules and regulations it's blooming ridiculous. Here are some photo's of Beacon Farm [butchers] taken today. He gave me a pigs head and plan to do some chawl with part of it and give the other to someone who asked for it. Here are some photo's of the farm animals. The horses are as big as a 12.2 pony but I didn't ask how much they were. They had two stags but have sold them. Jean.

Miriam the hens should be laying for another few weeks they told us. Our friends at the Harbour keep ducks and chickens but you have to order them and sometimes we are not able to go down so I just take pot luck. The photo's are from the farm the other side of the Beacon road. Jean.

Thought I would let you know that Wrights farm are no longer operating as an egg farm. We had the last two trays of eggs after the chickens went to their fate. Jean.

Is Wrights egg farm known as Beacon Dairy Farm? If it is the farm I know they supply eggs to Beacon farm and indeed several butchers as far away as Brownhills. Whilst I have been travelling to my caravan in Kent most weekends I have bought eggs from a farm gate with a donation box attached to the frame. Apparently, this farmer has got around these lunatic laws by giving his eggs away but asking for a donation for the upkeep of the chickens. Best free range ggs I have ever tasted, the farmer tells me those that take the eggs donate very generously.
Now the caravan season is over it wil be back to buying eggs locally, there is no way Im paying near £4 a dozen in the supermarkets. If you find an alternative supplier Jean please let me know.

Just been up Beacon farm for our meat and veg and took a couple of photo's. The pig on an earlier post by the name of Laurel comes when he is called and answers when you say his name. His friend Stanley was fast asleep in the bit of sun that had come through. Jean.

I have met both those piggies too Jean and very personable they are too. Its such a pity they will be eventally be pork chops. I could never be a farmer, no animal would ever go to slaughter. Your photo of the chickens, I see there are 2 cockerels....so there must be lots of new chicks on the way hopefully. In the meantime have you managed to find a reliable egg source yet Jean?

John they told me they promissed the previous owner that they would not end up in the oven or pan but we will see. They had the vet out last week to a goose they have had for years and he is on arthritis tablets. Most of them are for the oven though I guess. Still not found anyone as good for eggs but someone said the freezer shop on Hawthorne road do miss shapes and are very reasonable. Could have bought duck eggs today at thirty five pence each. There are many more cockerels than those John.TTFN. Jean.

Jean
I've never heard of miss shape eggs . It brings interesting possibilities to mind, , most very painful for the poor chicken
Mike

Truly Mike they are either poor shelled or a funny shape and some rather enormous ones. We too felt sorry sorry for the chickens. I put some on a old thread Jennyann. Jean.

Had a lovely couple of hours walking the dog and Pete round Bar Beacon. Chose that in preference to sitting in a pub and having a meal. Couldn't miss a lovely day today to go walking. Took a couple of photo's while we were there and was surprised that there were not many people about. This is where there used to be a statue of a dog that was stolen. Jean.

We were looking down on the farm today and the wind was blowing our way from it. say no more. We were there last week.

Not sure I heard correctly on Radio WM but there was a report of copper being stolen off the roof of a memorial and i'm sure it said Barr Beacon.

Such a shame we now live in a world where people will stop so low as to steal metal from a war memorial.

Makes me despair sometimes.

I hope if they catch the people who did it they get a long prison sentence.

Better still lets put them in stocks in the local high street and let people vent their anger at them.

This is dreadful to see and hear about. It will be difficult to find the thieves I think. Even with strict rules for scrap metal dealers supposedly in place to prevent the metals being sold on, there are a lot of under the table cash deals
happening with no records of the sales. It is so sad. Wonder what will happen to the roof now?
