Summer Lane

Story goes: The fella that was looking after that horse was taken ill and no-one else would take care of him except grandad Turvey. Unfortunately it cost him his life( typical turvey)

Not exactly Summer Lane but the bit of Brearley St.betweeen there and Newtown Row.
The photo.is my granny Beard climbing the greasy pole,there was a £1 note pinned to the top, and my granny won it,what a woman she was...our family's only claim to fame.The occasion was the jubilee of King George V.1935.

If someone could clean up and remove the creases from this photo,i would be very grateful.
 
Glad you liked that one Max.Here's another one,same street,just a few yards from the lane.
the only people I know on there is my mom,in the centre wearing a funny beany hat,she had just had a mastoid removed from her ear,the other person I know is the lad on her right shoulder,who when mom was in hospital used to go up the market,pinch some fruit,and climb up the wall of the hospital,(no visitors them day's),to deliver it to the ward she was in.
What wonderful people they were.

Ray - on Martin's money page in the News of the World today there is an item about free software that can be downloaded and one of them is for graphics and photo manipulation, I dont know if its any good, but I a going to have a go at downloading. It is https://inkscape.org or https://gimp.org/downloads. Perhaps someone on the Forum may know of these and can let us know if they are any good. Carol
 
Carol,If its Gimp then there is quite a bit of a learning curve, I tried it once and gave up. One I do have, though I rarely use it is Paint.net It is open source and very good actually, plus you can download plenty of additional plug-ins if you want.

I have just found the funeral jpg in Brian's collection it says Mr Birches Funeral.
I am in the process of building a new summer lane web site it as only the Home page and an introduction at the moment as any poster got and material to help out with John H
