Old street pics..

What a great picture. i lived in haymills till i was thirteen, i remember the tavern even drank in it later but cant place where this toll house would have been. regards podgery.

Yet again Bernie, great photos. Anyone know what the boards are outside each cottage in the last photo? Viv.

Hi berniew thanks for that they are a great set of pics, but i still can't work out where the toll house was. i must be thick or suffering memory loss but in my memory there was the tavern then the road to the church and then the bridge over the river, so i know we are talking a long time ago but i cant see where it fitted in. Help!
Hi Podgery Bill Dargue has a site of old pics of Hay Mills https://aghs.jimdo.com/images-of-old-hay-mills/

Thanks for posting these photos BernieW, can I make a couple of comments, on Post 1555 The Victoria Playhouse originally opened as a theatre, as did many cinemas. On Post 1568 the corner of Park Lane and Potter's Hill, the shop was bombed during the war and was a bomb peck for many years of my childhood.

I think you must be right, i still can't picture it though,I wonder if it would be shown on an old map? i'm curious now i'll have to investigate. Thanks Podgery
It's got to be by the entrance to Latch and Batchelor at the entrance to the Fordrough .

Is this what you want ?

Mike would you have a map at all for the 1830s/40s that would show land around Yardley/Bickenhill with the names of The Hagglebottom; Lyndon Meadow; Lyndon Field. Thanks Carol

Bernie - What a fantastic picture of The Gate Inn at Saltley. I don't know the area, but loved seeing the dress of the men and women at that time. The stove pipe hats and crinolines. Wonderful photo.
