Brummie babby
Hi - my mother Carol Diane Underhill gave birth to me on January 11th 1958 and we spent 6 weeks at Lynwood House until I was adopted. Sadly I have never seen her since but believe she may still be in Birmingham - or was until a few years ago. I know she married David Snape in the 1960’s.

for the sake of data protection and privacy i have deleted the last 3 posts which gives personal information and could relate to living persons...can members please contact helen via our private message system thank you

lyn

I'm not quite sure why the last 3 posts were deleted as the information on those posts is freely available for anyone to find.

Therefore wouldn't the marriage in 1964 (which names the bride) come under data protection.

quite agree william and i have edited that bit from my post...and yes info is readily available but to protect this forum we feel that certain information given on such a delicate subject is best relayed via our private messages rather than on open form...its always difficult especially as the person in question may not wish to be found

Lyn I am not trying to be awkward by responding once again to this post, and I do understand fully that certain information on such a delicate subject should be kept private.

I fully understand also that Helen is trying to find her mother - which must be emotional for her and very difficult - and without Helen naming her, then how can we help without such information.

Having given this some thought - what if her mother is still alive and has never told anyone that she had given birth to a daughter and had her adopted.

What if her family, friends, neighbours were to see this post which could then cause great emotional distress to her if she had kept her daughters birth and adoption to herself.

So how do we get around GDPR when we ask for help tracing someone but not knowing if they are still alive or deceased. Can we name that person and circumstances of why we are searching for them.

William I really appreciate your supportive messages. To be honest I hadn’t thought about GDPR (although I should as a recently retired senior healthcare professional ). It’s just I’m getting older, and if my mum is still with us time is getting short. No blame for her from me as times were very different then. I merely wanted to know where I ‘began’ as I have very little information. Thanks to everyone who has responded and I certainly didn’t mean to breach any rules.

I do not think you can, or should, stop people searching. To do that, unless the name is very unusual, one must give some information. In almost all cases the name is not specific to one person, and much of the information is available publicly. What we can do, and do encourage, is for any information regarding people still alive be communicated using the private message system, . Thus it is only revealed to the questioner

I do not think many of us had considered breaching GDPR when we read your post and posted our responses.

It was only when Lyn said she had removed 3 posts that I started to think GDPR and how we can overcome this.

Have you taken a DNA test. If not then this may be worth considering.

William.
