High Street Erdington

I just thought that row was on the High Street/Sutton Road and named Easy Row. Not that the road was called that.
I live in one of 4 houses now numbered as part of the road but when built in 1902 were 1, 2, 3 and 4 .... .... Cottages. (Not putting full name for obvious reasons) They never appear on a map named as such.
 
I've just revisited the auctioneers advert for the cottages in post #421 and it says "twenty 2 storey cottages known as 'Easy Row' " A second look at the way it's presented in the advert certainly looks like it's quoting the name of the cottages and not the name of a road.

On reading the ad, I still had in mind that the cottages were behind the High Street for some reason. A bit slow on the uptake on this one !

i also noticed in the advert that the cottages are numbered 115 to 153

Yes Lyn, all makes sense now.

In post #405 was Rymond the butcher and Mullis the tobacconist listed as being part of the ER terrace of cottages ?

The sale notice from 1915 shows that Machin owned 20 x two-storey cottages. High Street, 115-153.
The rate book from 1914 backs this up showing owner Charles Machin (excs). Number 155-165 are owned by the living GH Machin. 163 and 185 being The Lindens.

never ceases to amaze me how very often a member (in this case pedrocut) will post one photo and that leads to us sleuths finding out so much..in this case the machin family now have their own thread..its just like being back at school again :D

There is still a sign saying "High Street" on the alterations shop at the top of Station Road.

If you look above "Stop & Stich" on the corner near Station Road, you will see it still has a sign saying "High Street"

These ladies were queuing for 'nylons' (stockings) in the 1950s. But where on High Street and at which Leicester company's shop/outlet ? Could it have been an outlet for Wolselys knitwear/socks/stockings ? There's a 'School' sign in view. Maybe it was near the old Board School on the High Street ?
