Birmingham Mail 24/2/2010 states the wheel is to be shipped abroad from Felixstowe and be back in Brum next November. (Quoted from Mail website).

Have you got these sorry if you have, looking good
just noticed interviews on my birthday

Hi. Mike. Can just see you driving the land train up and down the pier, but on second thoughts, perhaps not.

So that's where you get to ragga, under those brolleys. Hope you are keeping an eye on your postcard thread ,there's some good stuff coming in.

This early card of the seafront amuses me - "Aerial View" - a plane must have been flying exceedingly low to get such a view. I get the feeling it was taken from up a lamp post or the tram overhead repair tower wagon. Any other suggestions?

love these pictures i went on a pleasure flight over Weston once, from a little airport up the road from Weston can't remember the name it will come to me,

Elizabeth its Weston airport a couple of miles out of town, its still there but not used anymore

Mossy

Mossy was that because they turned down an application to extend the runway for Red Dragon Airways Jumbo Jets from Wales when the Cardiff paddle steamers finished coming to the Old Pier:D

Hello Mossy,
Used to come to Weston annually to dance in a competition. It was in the late 50s.
Seem to remember the place was on the front , and I think the ballroom floor was
sort of lower than the seating area. Wondered if it is still there ? ? ?
Betty.

That sounds like it could have been the Winter Gardens Betty and if so it is still there.

Hi All,

The BBC program about the new pier at Weston was very interesting. It is hoped that it will open this summer possibly in June but most likely in July.
Unfortunately the tower will not be completed until next year. It is costing millions to build so I hope that the entrance charges will not be too expensive for many folk to pay. I am certainly looking forward to going down to dear old Weston to sample the new pier.

Are they going to charge :( missed that

Hi Dave M,

No charge was mentioned in the BBC program but there is a charge to get on most piers. I am fairly sure that there was a charge (not much) to get on the pier that was desttroyed by fire.

On the subject of piers and Weston the old pier up towards Kewstoke is, in my opinion, an eyesore and should be demolished completely. Perhaps Mossy has an opinion.
