Ghost signs of Birmingham

This was at 570 Coventry Road in 2021. A good example of the many possibilities hiding (and protected?) beneath modern shop signs. I expect the less elaborate the modern sign covering it (eg no neon lighting, wires, new carpentry to original sign etc) the more likely the sign is to be found underneath and intact. Viv.

Walk past that every day Froth on my way for a coffee. There are more further up the road near Oxford Street. Enjoy your stay, lots to see and do here. Sorry off topic. Viv

A lovely little plaque. And unusual.

Is was covered over when it was Eden - has probably helped to preserve it.

There are no obvious telephone poles in the photo with the tram - post 1569 - they are more likely tram standard poles.
The date of the photo is post WW2 I believe and would be before October 1949 when the trams to Cannon Hill (39) and Moseley Road (41) ceased running.

A view from 2010- not sure it is any clearer.

In 1940 Kelly's it is listed as the Holt Brewery

Acquired in 1934 by Ansells but seems to have existed as Holt's until the 1970s.

This is at the junction of Constitution Hill and Northwood Street. On the Northwood Street side I think it reads 'Wines and Spirits'. Above the White Horse Cellars sign I think it says 'Of'. But the words on the Constitution Hill side I'm unable to decipher. Viv.

Bond might be a person's name or a reference to bonded warehousing. I say that because theres the 'Of' to condsider. So far its possibly :
' .. and bond of wines and spirits' Viv
