You are correct..........Its not the Scott Arms, its quite a way in the opposite direction. I was drinking in here in 72, but it has been replaced with a new pub. (what more information can I give without telling you the name?)

Does nobody know this one? I'm anxious to find out where it is!

Lloyd

I'll give you a clue, the tram tracks would have been for a service that finished on the 5th of January 1937. There is another form of transport close by.

See how you get on with those clues, if they don't help then I will give you another that will give it away.

There were five services that terminated that day, all within an area of South Birmingham thus removing other areas from consideration. Given that I said "There is another form of transport close by." I would be looking for a railway station in the vicinity.

I will go further and state it is close to three local railway stations. (when I say close I mean within 10 minutes walk).

I have given Lloyd clues concerned with transport, because of his interest in transport matters.

Warwick Rd, just past Stockfield Rd junction looking down towards Tyseley Station / town?

Nearby stations: Tyseley, Acocks Green and Hall Green?

Dave P,

Well done, you have spotted the location, but he question was "put a name to this pub".

It shouldn't be too hard as there is a new one of the same name at the location.

pmc1947

I don't know the name, I do remember that the "new" place is set back from the road. The last time I went in there was 1977 with work colleagues from Serck on Stockfield Rd as the Stockfield pub opposite work had become too rough! With all this info and the location can somebody come up with the name?

Tell your husband I wouldn't much fancy going on a pub crawl with him, with his knowledge of pubs we would have done more walking than drinking.

The Sydenham used to be on the Junction of Golden Hillock Rd and Sydenham Rd, Small Heath

The Greet used to be on the junction of Warwick Rd and Manor Farm Rd, Greet.

And at last the correct answer the Britannia was on Warwick Rd opposite Stockfield Rd on the borders of Acocks Green and Tyseley.

Well done all who took part.

from memory the pubs that I can put a name to on Warwick Rd, from Olton to Stratford Rd back then would be

The Golden Arrow Olton
The Boundary Club (not really a pub)
The Dolphin Acocks Green
The Red Lion Acocks Green
The New Inns Acocks Green
The Britannia Tyseley
The Greet, Greet
The Waggon an Horses Greet
The Sportsman Sparkhill
The Mermaid Sparkhill.

I don't think I have missed any, but as I don't remember C & D Auto's I can't really say which one of these it would be. I can tell you I have drunk in them all and I would nominate the Sportsman for being the roughest. It was a Jocks pub and I say that with no racial slur intended as I am of Scotch blood myself.

Sorry about the time I took, I was having my dinner,

Youv'e got it all wrong, it was a hot night and the lad fancied a swim. So his mate was just helping him over the fence. It happened all the time.

Pete,

I think things are going ever so slightly off thread here, We will be getting our collars felt.

Phil

Lets get back on track (pardon the pun) Where is this tram located. This should be of no problem to you transport buffs.

Sakura I don't think "having ones collar felt" is localised to Birmingham. I have heard the expression used all around the country.

I knew it wouldn't take you long, I could be picky and say that the tram is in Mary Street, just before Edward Rd, but I wont. Well done. Indicate if you would like another.

pmc1947

I wondered which street it was - the tram track junction made me think of the 'Chinese Railway' one way circuits in the area, and I didn't know the district before the housing shown had been replaced.
More please! I enjoy the challenge!

In an attempt to make this one a little harder I have blocked out the route number on the tram. Lets see how you handle this one, I think its easy. Then again I would I know the answer.

You've got it Lloyd. They were called the happy Valley Entertainers. Landudno. That's an old bandstand in the centre of the picture. Bye for now. GGJ.

OK pmc1947, let's study the clues. (As I don't recognise it straight off!)
69 was one of the early three widow cars that had gone by 1937, after the closure of Stratford and Warwick Road routes. Houses higher than the road. A narrow space sign, used where the road width is restricted, say by a railway bridge.
Still guessing, but Warwick Rd / Tyseley Lane near the Stratford line bridge? Just up from Tyseley engine sheds.

To be fair, I didn't recognise the shot, but know where the 'Great Orme' is!
I decline the trophy for this one!

Now, on with the show. Where's this? A nice early view of a Corporation car in original open top, open front condition with destination blinds and boards facing forward (blanked for this shot!) instead of just numbers as later, with destinations in the side window.

Lloyd

You have got the road and the route, but the location is quite a bit out. I won't make you guess again.

Its just pulling in to Acocks Green Village, by Dudley Park Rd.
