Where is this ? 178

Had a closer look now. Pinfold Street, facing New Street, Navigation Street behind bus.
Nameboard for 'Birmingham Garages' in Navigation St (opp Bristol Rd bus terminal) visible over British Railways van on right, gives angle and distance.

If that high building in the distance on the right is Rail House , it gotto be Holiday Street ??
ragga ....

No Lloyd - getting there but think of some other viewpoint that overlooks the Birmingham Garages.
"Well done, I was wondering when someone would notice the Birmingham Garages" as Captain Mainwaring would have said.

Though it doesn't look like any part of Swallow St that I recognise, it must be around there.

Phil

ragga is really closer than most with his dodgy double decker location, folks, but I need a street name to clinch it and with that it must wait til tomorrow. Over and out.
Mike

well i am still trying to figure out what the building on the right in the distance is.....looks a bit like a multi car park but not sure....good one is this...

Just seen this thread, and did clock the Birmingham Garages sign straightaway, used to wait for the bus every night to go home in Navigation St.
LLoyd is right I would say, Holliday St. /Allport St. junction, the angle appears to be right looking at the map.

Looking at those buildings over the "Jazz" sign on the right I think that could be up Hill Street just before it gets to Smallbrook Queensway. So, Gloucester St or Dean St?

Just had the old map out, after looking at it upside down for a while, I have to agree with Lloyd. It's Allport St

Phil

morning phil...any idea then what the large building on the far right would be....

lyn

I think i know where we are now maybe the building at the back is the old central P.O in Commercial St or Seven St. Dek

I'm putting in for Allport Street too, provided that's the short diagonal route between Suffolk Street and the rear of the West End cinema. Marked with a red circle in the bottom right of my attached picture.

Think I now agree that it's Allport St. Looking at the map, the other side of the wall seems to be lower than the road which would fit in with the Goods Yard being there. The only thing that puzzles me is the advertising on the side of the shed(?).

Well done Lloyd and all those who agreed with you. It is indeed the long lost Allport Street with Suffolk Street in the background.

Very interesting these photos Mike, and this is a cracker. Was Allport ST. the terminus then?, its a new one on me.
