And in typical 'Friends' fashion, after they had cleared the area for Renee, they noticed this Floyd family headstone in pieces, nearby O 1095, and completed the Jigsaw!
9 in the grave!

Brian that's a great find, what a good job the 'Friends' have done in pieceing this one together. It is such a shame it would have been a beautiful memorial.
This would be a good one to do some research on with the help of our members. The first name is a bit difficult.

I have found Francis Benjamin G Floyd B 1864 D Birmingham 1883 aged 19.

Angelina Floyd D 1890
Francis F Floyd D 1912
Walter Augustus Floyd D 1874
There are nine people in the grave so others must have different surnames.

No further room on the headstone after 1893 - There may have been a suplementary flat stone - often is - but if so - is it 'buried' or just vandalsied (sorry - carefully laid down) by the Cemetery Authorities.

Your list is better than mine Brian sorry I didn't know you were in touch with family of the Floyd memorial.

Hi Wendy,

I said to them to contact me & i'll do them a list of all the Floyds.
Now I've typed up the WL disk and printed it out, I can do an F5 search on a grave number and it goes through them one by one.
Took quite a while for the 515 in Grave O 742 - Just keeping count sent me to sleep!
Off to WL in a bit via KH to find L166 for an email enquiry - Got my rake and camera!

May see you later

Brian

Hi All.Thank's for the kind message's and to Brian for putting the photo's on here you are such wonderful people keep up the good work.Your work is so much appreciated.Pam & Irene

The following are photos that I posted on the forum some time ago. they are ovbviously not there now, but i can't find where the post was either, so this is the best place for reposting. I took then in warstone lane cemetery around 1970, and my main interest was the buildings alongside, but they do show some of the cemetery as well. They go from close to where it meets Vyse St (no 10)and then succesively along that edge (to no 17).

Brilliant Photos Mike - Thank you for posting them. I wonder if Brian would be able to find and photograph the same graves now?

Brilliant photo's Mike I remember you posting them what a great view of the cemetery and doesn't it look neat and tidy.

They're great photos - I've not seen them before. Bet we can locate and photograph now.
Wish I'd seen these last night - I've just come back from taking some more photos from yesterday's clear-up in the lovely sunshine. I could have investigated.....

Challenge for later in the week maybe :)

Been in touch with Mike and if I can find the original thread, I will add them back in there as well.

I took this photo on the open day - looking towards Vyse Street - it is bit distant but I think it might show the cross that is on the first photo that Mike posted. I hope it is the same cross - then if it ok with Mike for us to use his old photo, we can take a modern view of it and put both on our display boards for the open days and history fairs. Vyse Street is certainly very different today.

Brilliant pictures - Sections A & C looking at the rear of the buildings in Vyse St - almost all replaced noe. The Lodge is on the right out of sight.

The Engineering company is now the Jewellery Quarter Conference Centre that walk alongside when entering from Vyse St.

Very differant now!

Brian

Have realised i can date the photos a little closer. Immediately before these photos are one of the last stages of the demilition of the great Western Hotel frontage of Snow hill station (not the platforms). This occurred in 1969, and so these would also be 1969

Last shot of the side of the Conference Centre - formerly the Engineering & Finishing works.

Ground plan is the same - but how all the buildings have changed!
