Is This really New St. Birmingham.
Yes, definitely, looking towards High Street, the Odeon on the right and the Times Furniture building which is now Waterstones.

A 1970's map shows a pub just in New Meeting Street - could it be that? "Lost pubs" shows it as the Red Lion. A slightly earlier map shows the pub next to the News Theatre and coming on to High Street.im trying to place the ansells pub that is showing in post 273

On the right hand side of Stitcher’s picture there is a line of shops with tall frontages and what appears to be ornamental additions to the apex of the top windows. The modern picture shows what they might have been...Hello robroy, as always I am doing several things at once, sorting through a lot of papers as well as posting on the forum. I have checked and the text with the photo definitely states Dale End but with you having drawn my attention to it I can also see it is wrong. I also think it is looking towards Hill Street with the Crown pub to the right.Hi I dont think thats Dale End is that Hill Street in the distance?
That's the shop I remember Elmdon Boy. I remember passing it on the #33 bus coming into town. The shop was also a Girl Guide shop. Used to sell all the paraphernalia, including camping equipment. I remember window displays of tents. It was, I think, a red brick gothic building, although by the 1950s/60s it was very dirty brickwork. Viv.

Could this be the present view of Stitcher’s Villa Road?

Guide Shop was in Ryder Street at the top end of Corporation Street when I knew it. Usually tents in the window. I think it sold scout uniforms as well until Scout Shop opened.Yes, I'm sure you're right - I remember that shop as I got my Brownie uniform from there.
