Turley and Williams, Ltd., locations - Originally of Reliance Works, Green Street, Deritend, Birmingham.

He was 76 when he died.

“We've tried that, and it only reveals British Safety Stove Co. Ltd., but not Turley and Williams.”

I think the reason for this is that after the take over by the Fkavel Group Turley and Williams’ name may have at some time been wound up. The British Stove was kept as a shell company until 2010. Possibly to cover the patents.

here is his death info with date of birth as 18th sep 1893

Many thanks, Lyn.
Am I right in thinking that if he lived at Bournville, then he worked at Bournville/Cadbury's as their metal works managing director?

hi mark i very much doubt it as cadburys is a chocolate factory and as far as i know nothing to do with metal works...also if he was a managing director i think that would mean he owned the metal works factory.

Thanks.
I thought that when they developed Cadbury/Bournville, that you had to work there to live in their housing scheme?
Even chocolate factories have machines for making the chocolate, as well as the tins to put the chocolates in.

The first date for Smith at T&W on a patent is 1935.
The first date for Smith at Bristol Road on a patent is 1944.

Not all houses in Bournville were occupied by Cadbury workers. Up till around 1970s., the firm had considerable metal-working expertise. I was aware of a fairly senior manager having a new stainless steel exhaust made for him in the workshops (unofficially) and they did manufacture a considerable amount of metal components when needed. Indeed in WW2 the factory manufactured a number of metal items for the war effort, such as aircraft fuel tanks. However I am sure that part of the organisation did not have a person described as a managing director.

Dates of birth on death record and 1939 don't match. Both say 18th and 1893 but one is Sept and one March..
yes i see that now jan..in that case there must be 2 charles donald smiths born in 1893 unless there is an error on one of those records
