As regards the starlings, we had a wonderful view of them from the flat roof of Union Chambers, because from up there, we could see over the whole of the city centre across to the farthest distances, and the formation of these little birds was an amazing sight to behold, especially in the winter months when resident starlings were joined from flocks having arrived from Scandinavia, so that thousands of birds would fill the whole sky for a short period before then swooped down together to fill the trees in the Cathedral grounds.thanks goodness we still have it and it looks magnificent compered to the bland buildings either side and opposite
