Maybe this isn't relevant to Gwen's request, but years ago when the new vicarage at Aston Church was in the planning stage, my dad assisted in logging the names of the graves that were moved when the foundations were being dug. Most of the graves were Victorian, but as each one was excavated (not a particularly nice job, my dad said) another layer of graves was exposed, until they actually got back to pre-Conquest times, according to Birmingham University Archaeology Department. Apparently the law states that if a person's grave is moved, then the descendants of that person must be notified. Not easy when the graves are the best part of a 1000 years old.
