you can clearly see the old wall and entrances!these apartments now stand where the church was..i believe they retained some of the old pillars from the church
i am now wondering when it was demolished as back in the day i must have walked past it a few times

Must have past it a few times myself - cannot place the wall and steps even! Mind you, memory is not what it once was........
as youngsters i dont think we took much notice of buildings i know i didnt...i must have walked past st silas mission church in nursery road hundreds of times going back and forth to lozells girls school but for the life i me i cant recall it

I can remember the church quite well, I used to pass it on the number 16 bus to town going to work.these apartments now stand where the church was..i believe they retained some of the old pillars from the church
Strange but I can't really recollect it actually being demolished!

I am confused - where does St Silas Mission fit in to the picture?
I don't know the area but have done some digging via planning sites and directories..
The articles refer to a Congregational Church which was at Soho Hill (100)
But ... according to a google search St Silas Church was somewhere else .
1940 directory
St Silas Mission Hall was another property.
Perhaps someone (Lyn) can enlighten me.

For info, as we know the chapel was sold, this was in 1941. The, quite possibly, small congregation continued by moving to a converted house at Hamstead Hill Handsworth.

sorry jan...my fault for confusing
...i was just using st silas mission hall in nursery road as an example for brian about how as youngsters we can walk past a building many times and not really notice it....lyn
