For my 9th Birtday I had a cartesian deep sea diver. It consisted of a plastic tube filled with water and a plastic figure. Press the rubber button on the top of the tube and he went down. Came back up when you released it. Unfortunately, I can't find an image of that exact toy.

I had a submarine that worked using the same method

Hold onto those "Civil War" cards Donbogen. They are very collectable these days, as are the dollar bills that came with each pack. Pretty gruesome some of them, particularly the one below, which was very hard to come by in the early 60s. I found my long lost collection a couple of years ago and I was a happy as a sandboy, to have them to hand again. :)

i had a boat that you put a drop of meths in a burner and the heat come out a pipe and propelled the boat along
I saw, and purchased, one like the meths ones, in Worcester Xmas market about 10 years ago. Not sure where it is now

I was an 80s baby, but only really remember 90s toys, but the ones in particular I loved were, battleships, snakes and ladders, I collected china dolls (which now have a creepy vibe I think), operation, and etch a sketch :) Id do anything to go back to simple toys. But one thing, I always play board games with my boys.
