Old street pics..

The picture on post #1805 is wonderful. Oh, we have seen this same shot and paintings of such before but not this exact one, I think. Maybe it was here and I missed it. Anyway what a great shot down Paradise Street. Photography was in it's stride right then and there is possibly the last complete vestage of Christchurch before...yeah even then, as always...demolition. A real vista of the past. One of the great photo's on here for sure.

6 years later you may not still be active. I lived at number 91 Upper Thomas Street and would have gone to school in Upper Thomas Street in the 1930s. Would love to hear know if you had any photos of the street. My cousins, the Burleys (Arther, Margaret and Jackie) lived in the street too.
 
Great to see these old pics. I have very very few from the time I lived in Upper Thomas Street in the period of 1930s and 1940s. Love to find any references to Bilney Brushes run from 91 Upper Thomas Street, We also had a shop run from the "front parlour". We knew the Burleys who were our cousins. Other family names I remember are Phipps, Saunders, Aston. I am 88 now and not sure how many from the era are still alive. There was a porn shop on the corner of Clifton Road and Upper Thomas Street. Any one got a picture?
 
Any one got a photo of Saunders the Chemist, Dillaways the Fish and Chip shop (Upper Tomas Street), the sweet shop was called Godrich's, opposite Upper Thomas Street school. Great memories in the shop after school. There was a machine on the outside which gave doubles of "Black Jack" toffee.

Brings back fond, and otherwise, memories of Joes Cafe. Worked at Ryland Garage for 4 years from 1960 and as a lad had to fetch the older Mechanics double decker sandwiches whilst all I could afford was tomato dips usually from the change that I was allowed to keep.
