Josie, Many thanks for the photo of All Saints Church, Hockley (#1769). My Gt.grandparents , Samuel Hanson and Agnes Nicholls, got married here in 1861. I wonder why they chose this church? He was living in New John Street and she was living in Brearley Street at the time.

Below are two postcards i found on e-bay today. the Bournville village laundry one i think must be somewhere near the old mens baths. The Park road one i have played with to get a better picture. It does not say which Park Road, but must be quite early

Lovely old picture of Soho Hill/Villa Road junction Bernie. I grew up in that area and used all those shops shown in your post #1781. The corner shop was a cafe and the bus is in front of what became Dick Pearce's Newsagents where I used to work on Saturday afternoons while I was still at school and would stand outside on Saturday nights waiting for the Sports Argus for Dad, next to that was an off licence run by two elderly ladies, then there was a grocers shop owned by Mrs Bevington (I think) and lastly Hill's greengrocers.

Totally agree with you Bernie. The collection you've been posting lately have been fantastic, and you're right about the memories.

Mike I think Park Road is the one in Hockley. Further up on the left hand side I would think is Abbey Street and there were certainly shops as shown on the right hand side of the road. Carol

I remember Saltley College well,it is/was opposite the Rosary and there was a pub nearby, the Country Girl I think.
I lived in Bridge Road from 1942 until 1951, my mother and father rented number 23 for the princely sum of one pound per week. The house had been recently repaired after bomb damage, the houses to the right were completely destroyed and those opposite severely damaged, they made fantastic play grounds. I remember the college very well , during the war the dining hall was opened as a "British Restaurant" I quite often had a meal there. I also remember the Country Girl and the Rosary which had a beautiful "Carillon" which was not allowed to be rung during the war, but afterwards I heard the bells on many occasion.I wonder if it is still rung.

Hi Roverman Iused to work with a couple of lads who lived around there and used the Country Girl acouple of times we ended up in the strangest club I've been in , it was in Ralph Road and was just a terraced house . I bet the neighbours loved that place
