Well, Alan (Astonian) probably would tell you - if he was still with us, as he was well acquainted with Ladywood and Hockley and many places in Brum for that matter.
Yes Steve we look at these closed pubs now and promptly although with feeling we say " Oh well that's another one gone " . What we seem to forget is with all the customers that have come and gone and all that chat that went into great pubs like The Holte they ain't just pubs "They're Institutions "We have now moved into 1993 and this is the Old Holte pub, at the time looking as though it had seen better days. Grand building but sad to see it all boarded up.
EDIT : From Keith R - 1st picture shows houses along Witton Lane, all gone now. Dont know if Villa bought them all up to extend the stand or not. Used to be the chippy near this end..it might be the building in the picture and terrace houses further along . Used to go to matches on my Honda 90 and park in a blokes back garden here for a fee. But no idea how I found out this was possible, One of life's mysteries.

Hyde rd/Clark st corner.This rather non descript building is The Hyde on Hyde Road corner of Monument Street, Ford Consul in the street and a corporation dust cart in the background I believe, taken 2nd July 1964. Thanks to Mikejee for the correction

Flint tower.demolished1970sA bit of a jump to the Brickmakers Arms on Icknield Port Road, tow things of note - first the Co Op milk float and second the block of flats are no longer there - as this is 1989 when did they go - then realise this is over 30 years ago !!

At Thomas'sWe now move onto the corner of Granville Street and Holloway Head ( although a look at the street nameplate say Bath Row) I need your help though as my information says school - any offers which one? not much to add, two storey with various windows both square and arched and also arched brick frames and the lady with a handbag.
