OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

We now have a general view down Waterworks Street , Harold Road onthe left and Perrotts Folly in the distance , the houses on the right remain but those on the corner of Harold Road have been replaced . Remember the old road signs it looks easy to miss and has no light over it either

I walked down here last summer to get a better look at Perrotts Folly, there's still a lot of the old houses / buildings remaining.

Our next picture is taken in Summerhill Road, once a FIAT dealership, this now boarded up property was apparently a Cinema in the 1950's. Everything boarded up and Fly posted in 1992

The next few are added for interest (!) as the quality is not amazing and the description is vague . This is Powell Street and Summer Hill Terrace
Is this The Summerhill - trying to read the words and guessing . Always surprised me the row of trees that mange to remain among the roads and industrial landscape

still there steve looking neglected now but the trees are still there

and last off this roll The Fountain Inn Farm Street Aston, taken in August 1961, love the symmetry, 5 windows across the top - door under the middle window, two windows either side and on the ends two doors with lamps over. Can I also point out the building on the left of the pub, three floors one room on a floor by the looks of it

Re post #2047. It's always surprised me how this terrace of buildings has managed to survive major redevelopment, especially as, even today, there's redevelopment and considerable demolition going on all around. Maybe some of the Terrace still belongs to the Greek Orthodox church situated on the Terrace and Arthur Place, preventing major redevelopment ?

There were plans (see attachment below) to convert the extensive Claremont House/Summer Hill House into residential properties (formerly care support).Calthorpe Property Group were involved but Streetview only shows a 2022 view, at which time it hadn't been redeveloped. The plans look interesting, which includs a garden area at the rear. If it did go ahead it would make a very nice residential conversion as well as retaining a solid, substantial, historic building.

I have created a Summerhill Terrace thread, as none existed before, using posts from other threads here: https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/threads/summerhill-summer-hill-terrace.62409
