Laptop Memory Upgrade

AnnS

master brummie
My laptop has slowed down considerably of late and probably could do with some additional memory (RAM).

I currently have 8gb of RAM installed and was thinking of adding an extra 8gb.

My question is can i use any brand of RAM for my machine and would it be easy to install.

Any advice would be much appreciated..

Not all memory modules are compatible or equal and some computers you cannot add anymore either. The supplier Crucial have a tool that you can download that will scan your system and offer you some options to upgrade. https://www.crucial.com/

Crucial don’t now sell direct but get the serial number of the recommended modules and but off amazon. I did my laptop a couple of week ago for £10.

There are also a few other tweaks you can do as well as just upgrading if you want some guidance.

Come back if you get stuck.

As you say your laptop has slowed down (rather than has always run slowly) suggests it may be worth doing a bit of 'housekeeping' - i.e. removing clutter and checking that you are not running unnecessary programs in the background. Before I go into details, are you running Windows and if so which version?
