This one was taken in March 1964 outside Holford House. My dad, Ken Westbury (Lightning Fasteners), is front, far left. I can't recognise anyone else. See anyone you know/knew?

Morning Mike and Ian. Still trying to find names out, but A Showell cannot recognize anyone but Ken. Hope you are OK. Miriam.

Hello Mike. Informed that Ken Westbury was - Diecasting Manager.
thanks miriam for info. i had to go into diecasting dept,a few times to sort out problems wth some of the diecast components and i always had quit helpful advice from, ken and his workforce,he is/was a really nice bloke.

Roy was my Dad's younger brother. Yes, he was in sales. They both worked their whole careers at Kynochs/IMI. Attached are a couple of images of Roy.
#1 (holding the ball) Captain of the 1947/8 Kynoch first XI
#2 Receiving a service award from the Chairman, who at that time, I think was Paul Chambers

You could well be right Chris, I just WAG'd it based on the time line! Wasn't the notorious Dr. Beeching also in there sometime during the 60's?

Here is a copy of a page from the December 1959 Metals Monitor describing the move of L/F from Artistic to Witton. It looks like the top pic is the L/F toolroom and the bottom is the diecasting shop with my Dad, Ken Westbury highlighted. The typeface is a bit small but its still legible.....maybe a magnifier might help?

Morning Mike. I think the man you are referring to is Harry Bill; and the white haired man Is Alf Hamblin. Will continue with the others - I do know a few but the names escape me for now - it is what is called "senior moment" !!!!

Luv. Miriam.

hi miriam,i think you or i are getting a little mixed up with the pictures .i am referring to the coloured one with your husband at his award gathering,i have seen the black and white picture with harry on,i think that may be you on the front row 2nd from the left.and i certainly know that the chap on the midddle row definately worked in the toolroom.(on coloured one) bill!!!!!

Hello again Mike. I am talking about the colored one. I am going to try to put a picture on here. Miriam

2nd road down= bowater. les marshall. miss. Alf Hamblin. Harry Bill. Al. miss. I am the 'girl' in the black dress.

When I see Arthur I will sort other names. Miriam.

hi miriam,it looks as if i have got totally confused with the chap with the white hair, i have assumed that he was arthur showell, question:did arthur work in LF toolroom, because the other chap on his left is bill ......,worked in this deparment mostly on the surface grinders, have you got a photo of arthur at about this time, and does he know me that is the question now. i worked in the devolpment toolroom, next the to main toolroom.(we will get it sorted soon ah ah!!)

Hello Frothy. Although it is nice to see the Sky and land - I can still see it as it was [in my mind] buildings, huts, cars, people and I for one, was happy working there. Miriam.

i had a very good apprenticship here and very pleased to have ended working in lf devolpment toolroom .i met some of the nicest people in kynochs in my entire life .i was born in brownhills and travelled every day by coach or car. from 1956 to 1970.it so very sad to see all this froth, but its a sign of the times, our industry is dying we have seen the best years kynochs was like a little town, banks, bus, errand boys and even a dentist, where i had all my teeth extracted when i was 21yrs of age. i only wished i would have kept in contact with all my workmates, never mind too late now.

Still IMI components there, where my wife works. I love waiting for her to come out in the summer evenings. I see Foxes, Rabbits, Ducks all kinds of sounds. Saw a Heron once.
Shame the factories have gone but it's a great wild life area now.

Some months ago I mentioned on this thread that my wife had come across a long lost folder she was given by her mates at Lightening Fasteners when she left in May 1956 to have our first "nipper".I was asked if I could upload a pic. of the folder and have been trying on and off ever since, without success.I realise interest in this topic will have long gone but with a different computer and camera I'm having one last go, just for the sake of not being beaten by this modern technology. Will try one page of the four, for the last time

Pembroke that's fantastic I loved the way people did these things when you left to have a baby. There is one of my sister in law on the Lucas site when she left to have her first child in 1969. A lot of effort went into these scrap books I am so pleased your wife kept it. Well done for posting it for us!

Just fell off chair with surprise.Suppose there's not much point being "old and thick"if one doesn't show one is old and thick. For interest I reduced picture quality on camera.
