Hopefully this links to an old map overlaying a modern one. Change transparency (bottom left) to compare...
no you need to go further up the high st but stay on the same side as adi..you may find this map useful...if you look at it on the corner of whitehead street it say PH (this was the scotch house pub) no 81 was 3 down from the pub..there is a blue dot at the bottom left just move this to the left and the map will fade out to show you what is there now....as you can see the spot where no 81 was is now taken up by the duel carriageway so you wont be able to actually stand on the old ground of no 81 unless you want to get run overRight I’m over this way now, I’m guessing those row of shops have been knocked down , is it where the aldi and farm foods is now? If anyone is from north Birmingham you may know.
well i was born and raised around there suzanne and i dont recognise the area now..so many changes...just had another look at that map i posted for you and when you fade the map out keep one eye on where no 81 was and you will see it stood on the grass thats in the middle of the duel carriageway...at least this gives you a good ideaAhhh now that you’ve both said that I know exactly where it is and what stretch of carriageway it’s on…. I’ve always lived south Birmingham so I have no idea what’s new/old this side.
Im on the laptop now so I will check out the map. It seems so far that every single address ive come across is no longer there, its a shame isn't it. But saying that the city centre has changed so much to now. I miss the old palisades and pavilions, Ill check out the other Aston post you mentioned too. thankswell i was born and raised around there suzanne and i dont recognise the area now..so many changes...just had another look at that map i posted for you and when you fade the map out keep one eye on where no 81 was and you will see it stood on the grass thats in the middle of the duel carriageway...at least this gives you a good idea

sadly suzanne this is the problem most of us have...a reason why i have spent the past 15 years finding and posting thousands of old black and white photos of streets/roads no longer there...if you use our search box you maybe surprised at what you can find...Im on the laptop now so I will check out the map. Ill have a look now, I love looking through old photos. There are a few good videos on YouTube of the city centre back in the day, but you may have seen them already.sadly suzanne this is the problem most of us have...a reason why i have spent the past 15 years finding and posting thousands of old black and white photos of streets/roads no longer there...if you use our search box you maybe surprised at what you can find...

Yes I’m big on nostalgia from the 80s and 90s. I feel it was a simpler time and everyone was happier. Although I really enjoy looking back at old brum. I wouldn’t wish to live in those times. Our ancestors had it hard. The further you go back the greater the likelihood of that being the case, especially in the poorer parts of cities and towns. People bemoan the changes but I can't imagine anyone willing to change their house now for a back to back with an outside toilet that their great grandparents etc may have lived.
Hmmmm you know, I don't know much about my moms, dads side other than he was born in tipperary in Ireland, I do have some of his relatives on my tree, but that's all I know. The last time I went over was in 1998. I would like to delve deeper at some point. Ill have a look at those linksA little bit of a guess (from your maternal side, Lambe?) ignore if wrong, but here are a couple of houses still standing (neither Bham). First one was occupied in 1939 (no.13) and the second in 1911 (no. 3), though depends if you think it's that one is that old...

No worries at all….I certainly seem to have taken a wrong step with your Lambe ancestors, so those houses have no relevance.
A fairly unusual name, a couple of coincidences and you're tracing the wrong person.![]()
