Iommi family

When it comes to pre-1900 ancestors moving from one place to another there are always a number of questions that spring to mind, usually unanswerable.

Why did they move?
Why did they choose the place they moved to?
What did they think of it when they first arrived?
Did they remain in contact with any family that remained?
And no doubt others.

My great grandparents came to Bham from rural Oxfordshire in the 1870s and I have speculated on answers to the above questions. It must have been a strange experience.

For people moving from a different country it must have been even stranger.
Its crazy because id say here and now, a lot of people would take the opportunity to get out of Brum. moving to Italy would be a dream for some, even Oxfordshire has got to be better than here.
Id have loved to of seen North Birmingham and the city centre in the 1920s.

So im going back to st Josephs tomorrow, I just hope someone can get their hand on a map for me, as no one ever answers the phone.
quick one aswell the uploads I put on yesterday of the burial records. On Felice and Angelina's it does list a John and Luigi as sons, are those the names you read? if so ill add to my tree as I think that will complete their children.

John we already know off as Giovanni.

And without further evidence I'd guess Luigi may be incorrectly listed and should be Luigi Musticone (son in law). There is no other sign of a Luigi Iommi to suggest another son.

I am not sure they have Sunday Mass any more.
It looks as if they have a vigil Mass on Saturday and a prayer service on Friday. The priest is listed as serving there and St Vincent de Paul .

Ah right that sounds correct as we spoke to the priest and he said he serves two churches. We will go anyway and have a look.

If you can find gravestones they should have the plot number on them (usually at the back on standing stones). The plots will go in order. I had to use that and count to find a grave Yardley which had no stone.
It might help.

Ahhh thanks for that I didn't realise the numbers would be on the back. Will help definitely with counting as im not hopeful they have a headstone but could be wrong.

Just thought. I assume it is the same for churchyard as council cemeteries. I am fairly sure my grandparents stone has a number. . Hope it's so.
