Iommi family

booth st still exists but all the old houses have now gone..so we are looking for catholic churches with burial grounds in that area...will see what i can find

lyn

have you tried handsworth cem yet...they have a roman catholic burial section ?

lyn
I did not realise there was a Handsworth cemetery. thanks for that, ill send them an email.
Infact im sure as its a Birmingham city council one she isn't there, because I got the council to search there whole system as she never came up. :)

From the email in this post

I think she might be at St Joseph's as the lady says 1939 is blank - very unusual if no burials at all that year. Comment is about "failing to fill in 1939 register".
Most likely buried in family plot with Giuseppe

Could she not still be buried at St Joseph's and not listed or not listed correctly as was mentioned previously I think?

Nicola Iommi lived on Booth St, though the other end. Here's a map from 1955 showing Jervis Terrace...

you are right I re read the email and it does seem like no burials were noted that year. very odd.

So Eleuterio who moved to America, his great grand daughter Katelyn, she is looking for a photo for me of Eleuterios son Michael who would be her grandad. Im on the look out now for photos, while I wait for the map from st Josephs.

On the map it says "jervais terrace" and says "permanently closed". I think it may be undergoing renovation so you may not be able to visit it. That is a guess.
Lyn - find 17 and19 Booth Street. On the left hand side of 17 is what looks like a long driveway. I think that leads to the terrace. On the garden wall from 17 is painted the sign I posted in post 312.
You can't go to the terrace on Street View as it is behind the houses.

That's a shame, every address I come across is no longer there.

Maria Iommi (the wife of Nicola) is listed in the 1939 trade directory as running Coffee Rooms at 169 Booth St

Interesting, thank you. Anyway to find out what it was called?. I remember reading that Tony iommis grandparents ice cream shop was called Iommi's ices . Im wondering if this is 81 High street, where a lot of my family members lived and worked? if anyone knows. Also I will be going back to St Josephs Thursday and hopefully the map will. be available.

One more thing, Giuseppe the artist model, I can not find a death date for him anywhere.

Perhaps Giuseppe the artist went back to Italy?

In 1940 directory 81 Hight Street is listed as Iommi G & L Confectioners.

1960 phone book has Iommi G & L cafe at 81 High Street

Oh so it was more of a cake shop then :) yes I think the G and L are Giovanni and Lucia. But Felice lived there also, so they must of had upstairs too. They must of ran that for a long time, as it was Felice residence on his death certificate in 1933.

Yes Giuseppe must of went back.
