High Street Erdington

In an advert for Bywater Pies in the Birmingham Daily Post of 21 August 1924, Burton and Harvey of The Green, Erdington is listed as a place where the pies can be obtained.

Thanks all. Think the tall building to the left might still be there, but everything to the right has gone.

I'd be interested in any photos of Erdington High Street around Coton Lane area if anyone could share them with me please as I used to work at Houghton's, the Gents Outfitters when I first left School.
Houghtons was situated oposite Owen Owen (Previously Taylors) and I would love to see a picture of the old shop if anyone can help please. I guess Houghtons must have been there from around the turn of the century judging by the shop fittings I remember and it closed about 1970.
Thanks.

Post #138 .Nice milk vending machine outside Paynes Shoe Repairs. This end of High Street was redeveloped - there was an early Tesco Supermarket and Chelsea Girl. When I went in Tesco to grab something for lunch in my Boots white coat, people used to stop me to ask where such and such was, thinking I worked there.

Post #139 Astons shop. Was that a bread and cake shop ? I have a feeling it became Wright's the Bakers. Did a few college holiday weeks working in Wright's too. I was put in charge of sandwiches. No fancy options in those days, just cheese and pickle, ham, egg and tom, that sort of thing.

Fond memories of the High Street. Thanks for posting Richard,

That section of the High Street up to the New Street turning on the left is still recognisable today. Erdington High Street still surprises me with the number of old retail premises despite its 1970s and later redevelopment.

I love this view. Think it's probably 1950s. Much of the foreground on both sides has been redeveloped, but a lot of the buildings towards the church are still there.

Lovely photo Viv. I remember it looking like this.

I have marked the photo (with what is supposed to be an arrow!!) where I remember two very old buildings stood. In my mind they were wooden but I'm probably wrong. I thing the next building is probably the Roebuck. Any ideas please?
