Help With Rellies Seamans Records

Yes - I think we posted at the same time. It could be the boys went with him to Yorkshire to the mining. Will look tomorrow.

well we know that enos and his brother alfred didnt go with dad timothy as they were both on the ships in 1911 and through the war

Bit early to be likely to be helpful, but in 1936, according to Kellys, no 2 Marley View was Joseph Buckle

Zillah Baigrie aged 31 and ? her children Lydia aged 8, Rebecca D aged 6 and William aged 4 travelled on the Sophocles on 25 Jan 1923 to Queensland.

In 1972 Zillah, William and Phyllis’ address is Toorbul Road, Toorbul, via Cture (Caboolture) 4510. Zillah and Phyllis both have hd F by their names and William has stdnt M.

Enos Wood is also living at this address in 1972.

BINGO mike its more than helpful but can you check again to see if it says joseph buckley not buckle ??...if so i now have the connection just need to check my birth certs...amazing how one surname can trigger off a memory for a birth cert i have had for years..will explain the connection if you can confirm the name buckley...

fantastic bewdley this is all adding up now...as soon as yorkshire was mentioned i thought a pattern was building now i am sure..

Great I love it when things slot into place quite unexpectedly.

I checked Ancestry's trees and Normad's tree has William Baigrie's marriage to Zillah on 11 July 1913 at Foresters Hall, Buccleuch Street, Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland. His occupation was postman, address Seaview, Aberlady. Zillah's address is 17 Grosvenor Crescent, Edinburgh, occupation domestic servant.

oh thats great bewdley...i presume that info is correct as we could not find their marriage in england...just waiting for mike to come back to me about the name buckle or buckley and then i can explain the connection...

Afraid it says Buckle (attached). Of course this could be a misprint . He is also listed as having a shop at 1 Noster Road, which is the shop just to the right of the house, which faces Noster Road, and is presumably connected to it

Both were listed as Buckle. Went to the 1927 Kellys, in the hope that if it was a misprint it might be correct there, but it was someone completely different then.

mmm ok mike well thats thrown my theory out of the window then..unless of course the birth cert i have is misspelt and should say buckle not buckley...will see if i can find out tomorrow..its too late now...thank you mike

hi folks just to explain why i thought that zillah may have been visiting rellies in yorkshire in the 1950s..

the enos wood b 1886 who this thread was orginally about was the gt nephew of my gt gt grandad enos wood b 1844...years ago i sent off for his birth cert which says mother mary wood formally buckley hence i thought that maybe zillah was visiting that side of the family... also to be noted that gt gt grandad enos is the bigamist in the family who left his wife and 2 young children in ladywood..went to yorkshire remarried in 1873 and had another 4 children and he died in yorkshire in 1906..so again yorkshire comes into the story..but as mike said the person living at the address she visited was a joseph buckle so although only one letter out it seems as though this was just a coinsidence

Not sure if this helps but in 1950 a T Wood was listed as a grocer at 1 Noster Road in the phone book. One of Enos' brothers was Timothy I think. Maybe a son or nephew? Could he live at 2 Marley View and have the shop as his business?

Have now found death for the brother called timothy. In 1911 he was lodging in South Elmsall near Pontefract and there is a death there in 1949 of a Timothy aged 67 which fits.

OK (I thought 1891 census listed a son called Timothy as well) but have just realised that Zillah lists an address on the other record which was Pontefract and I now think says Sth Elmsall (not very clear). She must have gone there first and then ended up in Beeston.

janice timothy was born in 1848..he is the only timothy i have so far...doing dinner at the min but later on i will take time to look at the info you have found..thanks janice...its just a shame i cant find the marriage info for mary buckley to thomas wood (my gt gt gt grandfather) just to confirm that she was a buckley not a buckle...on the 51 census her eldest child was thomas aged 20 so born in 1831 hugglestone leics so the marriage would have been prior to that date i would think...

This is what I was going on. Includes Timothy born 1882. Wonder if he had a family and that is who Zillah visited? Maybe a trip to his grave? It would only have been 18 months after his death. Must be a connection with the Pontefract link - or is it a coincidence?

1947 e roll for Pontefract lists Timothy, Sarah , Timothy (in forces) and Winifred at 38 Chapel Lane the address Zillah gave. She was visiting Timothy's widow and family. Also probate for his will. In 1911 Timothy was lodging with Thomas and Harriet Wood. Must be a connection - do you know what?

In 1919 Enos and Alfred were on the eroll in Yorkshire with a Thomas. Enos is marked NM (in the military). Not sure where Timothy was but he is listed with them in 1920.

Morning Lyn - is that a challenge? If you can add a bit more info (wives names, children) then I will try my luck. Glad to help - lucky the West Yorkshire e rolls are on line.

morning janice...you are most welcome to try and find enos on the 1861 and of course any other members:rolleyes: i have him after that in yorkshire with 2nd wife so no probs with that...got him on the 51 with parents thomas and mary and siblings at 160 gt croft st walsall darlaston he must have then came to birmingham at some point...he marries mary ann ann oakes in birmingham 20th april 1862...2 children thomas oakes wood b 1863 birm (my gt grandad) and daniel william b 1865 birm...so we are looking for enos wood b 5th of april 1844 whitwick leics

oh just as an aside i now have the marriage for his parents mary and thomas..married 7th oct 1827 at st matthews church walsall..i think the church which is 13th centruy is still there so i will be phoning them up to see if i can find out the names of their parents..if i can i can go back yet another generation..this is getting exciting:)

ok will go and look janice...good luck with old enos i do think that he must have been lurking somewhere around the ladywood area in 1861 as he married mary ann in 1862:rolleyes:

just a little update folks...i went to try and find st matthews church walsall today..this is where my gt gt gt grandparents mary and thomas wood married in 1827...what a church i did take some photos but i will post them on their own church thread soon...could not see inside as it was closed but i will be phoning them up this week to see if i can obtain the parish records for this marriage...here is some info on the church..did not realise it was so old..

Just to let you know I have checked all 1861 records for the street Mary Ann lived in in 1862 according to the marriage cert - no joy for Enos.
I think the marriage records might now be at Staffordshire Record Office. Also possibly on FMP if anyone has a subscription.
