That was always my benchmark! I lived just down from there on Radnor Rd.The much discussed B/W building can be seen on the corner of Villa Road.

Yes it must have been at some time, we lived in the area from the late 60s and the school looked the same then so the old building would have gone before that.thanks sparks looks like a new build

We used to run Cubs and Scouts in Hamstead Rd Baptist Church next door (to the right). More than once we had cubs come in in tears as animals were being slaughtered in the back yard of Taj & Co and the gates were not closed properly so they could see what was going on. There was also a pub on the road behind (The Burton House) - we came out one night and someone had just been shot outside it. Wonderful area.......Hampstead Road, Handsworth.

I remember that shop, it was quite an open area at the backWe used to run Cubs and Scouts in Hamstead Rd Baptist Church next door (to the right). So disappointing, circa 1958/62 many a Friday and Saturday night is used to take the 29 night service from Snow Hill at mid night to 2.00am to that intersection and walk home without a care. If I missed the stop of traffic light I would stay on to the Villa Cross! We used to run Cubs and Scouts in Hamstead Rd Baptist Church next door (to the right). That shop used to be a standard UK butcher’s shop, can’t remember the name.I remember that shop, it was quite an open area at the backI never saw anything but was aware it went on. I guess they were doing it to ensure it was Halal as required in the Muslim religion.
Ah...now you mention it, I think I remember that too. That shop used to be a standard UK butcher’s shop, can’t remember the name.
