Great Russell Street

OK thanks Lyn - I have family that lived in both Courts 17 and 26 - but that was way back before this photo was taken.

On the 1911 census my Grandad lived in Ray Place, Great Russell Street, looking at the maps that Mike and John have posted, all the courts have numbers. I wonder if someone, hopefully Mike could pin point where this Ray Place was please. Thanks.
Lynne.

Have looked at the map of the entire length of Gt Russell ST, a number of directories and the electoral rolls . Can find no mention of Ray terrace. This is not uncommon, as many of of the named courts, terraces and places dropped the names in official documents. If you can let me know the name of your Grandad (by IM if necessary), so that I can find him on the census, I will be able to work out which court this was
Mike

Hi Mike, Sorry if I'm keeping you up. My grandads name is Frank Guest b.1892. I've got the print out for the 1911 census and at the bottom, where its signed, the address is 1 Ray Place, Great Russell Street. His mother Elizabeth aged 46 and widowed is the Head. Thanks so much.
Lynne.

Because it was late , it didn't register that it was the 1911 census, which is arranged differently , and which i don't have routine access to, at present, being on ancestry. however, i thought it possible they were in the same house in 1900, and they are shown then at 1 court 48 Gt russell st. in addition elizabeth is listed in the electoral roll at 1 court 48 in 1912. so I think it is pretty sertain that Ray place is 1 court 48, as shown below just north of the church and the school.
Mike,

Mike, could you possibly show Court 25 in Gt. Russell Street on a map? Your first map finished at 26! I would much appreciate it as my 2 x gt.grandparents lived in this court up to 1871. Thanks.

Judy

Mike, so sorry for all the trouble I've caused you. Thank you so much for all the info, I did think it would be somewhere near the Church but was never sure. Thanks once again.
Lynne.

No trouble Lynne.

Court 25 is not quite out of the picture, but is very small and at this magnification is not really readable (that's why i coloured the other court in to make it clearer which it was ). Here is the top of the map at greater magnification . i hope the above is reasonably understandable.

Thank you so much Mike - you are a star! With the enlarged map I can see Court 25 clearly. A very small Court which I missed before. I had family Court 26 as well, so that is brilliant. A bonus is being able to place it in the street as you have shown where Frankfort Street was.

No 218 Gt Russell St then (and for other periods as far as I know) is marked in red
