Interesting site on the history. My grandparents, my mother and her sister lived in Reservoir Terrace. It looks attractive in this postcard view. Mom had always fond memories of the rezzer. I took pictures of the sailing club boats on a light leaking folding camera and in the 60s saw the girls do the twist in the Tower dancing round their handbags while mother and her friend looked on.

Edgbaston Reservoir was a big miss for me, I never went there and loved to boat, fish or just look. It seems I went everywhere else! Still thinking how and why I missed it my bike took me everywhere!

Chilly indeed! Here are three more photos. My grandfather Joseph Edward Lawton is in the 1902 photo. He is also in the 1913 photo (when the name had changed from Bathing Society to Swimming Club) together with his eldest son Joseph George Lawton. The third photo is undated but would appear to be from c1902. The family lived and worked in Smethwick but very close to the Birmingham border.

Welcome to BHF, Woodcarver! Splendid photos and your personal connection. My Mom lived close, but was a non-swimmer and regaled me with stories of drownings there! Your grandfather and his friends look a fine body of men. Open water swimming is popular, but I don't think any is allowed at Edgbaston these days.
