Comics & magazines

HA HA HA HAHA HA

Hey Paul & sga, I like your quips, You can't beat a good laugh, especially when your miserable.

I often ask my wife to cheer me up & make me laugh but she's not a very humurous person, probably cause she is married to me.

l think everyone of those comics were great, then came the Hotspur and the Wizard with more reading and less pictures.

Ger22Van Have you heard from Dave Brick he's missing since Nov 2005 ^-^

Sorry Alf, but who is Dave Brick ? Sorry again Alf ( and to Dave Brick ) as you see l must be in my own little world and chat room

Ger22van sorry it was a standing joke with Dave the Brick (Dave Brick) he was never off the forum for months then he just vanished. Every now and then he gets a mention hoping he will respond but its a mystery.

When we first heard him he had or ran a Caravan Park in Devon. O0

THE KING OF COMICS: The EAGLE. DAN DARE ,TOM WALLS, PC 49, AND ALL THOSE EXPLODED DIAGRAMS IN THE CENTER PAGES. I STILL HAVE ALL THE ANNUALS.
ASTON

The Dandy and Beano were great but the ones that I remember most were the reading comics like The Rover, Hotspur and Wizard. Can't remember which features were in which now but I know that I flew more sorties with Braddock than most flyers had hot dinner's. Another guy was the feller who won all of the long distance races and only ate fish and chips out of news paper... remembwer Alf Tupper. This was in the days when cholestorol had not been invented. You Know, if you could only get the youngsters noses out of computer games and into stories like these they too would grow up to be upstanding people like us.....not. This site is a lot of fun.
Regards,

My favourite comic was "The Victor". I bought issue #1 because it had one of those things that Michael posted a pic of, and I terrified our dog with it until she jumped up and ripped it to pieces. The 'Victor' was a great comic with a good mixture of picture storties and text serials. As I was doing a paper round at the time at the top of Witton Rd by the library, I arranged for it to be home delivered. My Mom said I was daft for wasting my money (she didn't know that I'd put it on her account). My two brothers and my dad used to read it every week and I think we had it until the last issue. Pity we didn't keep any of them, imagine what a full collection would be worth today. I remember one serial in particular about an assassin that used bullets made from ice so that they were untracable (c1960) and recently on the"Myth Busters" they tried to emulate the idea. So the "Victor" was well ahead of it's time.

I've already said this but the greatest comic ever is Superman! I even have the new film ..da dah, da da da da da dahhhhh..just off now to buy myself a new red tea towel and red underpants.

George Reeves 1953 - 57 has to be the best superman with his wonderful knitted custume, the man of steel, why did he always duck when someone threw something at him ?
My Favorite comics were the small (about 6 by 5 inch) Billy the Kid, Kit Carson etc comics

Any gals remember Twinkle and Jackie? :-\
yes, my younger sister used to have Twinkle, and I used to get the Jackie on a Wednesday and read it at the bustop on my way to school, saving any Donny Osmond posters in the middle pages :smitten:

When I was a bit younger used to have the Bunty on Tuesdays and the Mandy on Wednesdays...

a bit older (early 70's) had Fab 208 on Saturdays (connected with Radio Luxembourg)

Yes John there was a comic called The Topper, it was larger than most comics in size, and I always felt it was good value for money. :-\

Thanks for the link Alf. I know I will have a good look at this! We had the Dandy, Beano,
Eagle and School Friend at our house I remember. It's amazing how the characters in comics stick with you over your lifetime.

We had the dandy, Beano and Topper.......I remember my elder brother would be first at the door (we had ours delivered, posh eh) he would then read one and sit on the others. I couldn't read them till he had finished (many an argument, but he was 12 years older than me so he always won)

:D:D:D:D:2119::D I used to have the Bunty. My favourite comic had a footballer called Roy of the Rovers in it. My husband has been collecting old beano and dandy anuals for years. Hard to come by nowadays. I sometimes got mine free as I used to deliver papers. If the boss was in a good mood. TTFN. Jean. .:D
