Boots shoes & socks in 1800 in Birmingham esp pictures

I’m including the wonderful William Hutton in my book on travellers along Hadrian’s Wall and would love a picture of likely boots that he wore to walk from Birmingham to Carlisle, then right through to Newcastle beside the Wall and back again, returning home in the same pair and not getting a. Single hole in his socks! What a man! What a pair of booots!

Janice, those boots in the video aren't a far cry from the shoes Hutton is depicted wearing in this engraving of him outside his (High Street) shop. The boots most likely would have been a boot version of these and likely functional, waterproof, sturdy, and low-heeled. Maybe they had hob nails too ?

In terms of socks, I expect he wore cotton stockings on his journey (second engraving below) worn by most men at the time. Screenshot_20260322_132835_Chrome.jpg
