I did not use nightclubs too often because I was on the doors anyway.

I did Go into the Rum on the odd occasion i/e Pat Roaches birthday or something along those lines. I knew the doormen and the Fewtrells and the Rum was not a bad place to be, it was quite well run and there was never much trouble inside.

That has triggered a memory Stitch my best friend went out with a lad named Gill who was a member of Cinnamon Quill. He was a friend of Jeff Lynn who often came into the Rum Runner he was always so nice. We had some great time there. I remember Pat Roach he went their often as I remember. You are right the club was well run and never any trouble only when Ozzy turned up...ha ha !!

Hello Wendy, I have seen idiots goading Roachi because they knew he would never retaliate, he was a very gentle man whenever I was in his company.
Pity theres never a year included in the date on adverts like these. The Barbs one would be 1974 I reckon. I was at both gigs, Dont remember much about the Be Bop Deluxe gig - Actually dont remember much from those days if it happened after 8 pm. lol - But that Stomu Yamashata gig was wierd. Little Japanese guy bashing saucepans with sticks !
Perhaps you had to be a bit more 'highbrow' than me, or a drummer, to appreciate it eh...

I have got more pictures of the Street Scene somewhere, I even took shots of the Lord Mayor's visit.
I definitely have shots of various people who used the club...including the manager and his wife. I remember him as Mick. They all agreed to having these pictures taken at the time.

It's strange how a comment out of the blue can affect you, I had no idea he had died, and I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. I knew Erskine T and he was responsible for much of my love of music from the States, bands that were never heard of over, yet he would pull an LP out and say you've got to listen to this. I used to go to both incarnations of The Diskery were he worked. He used to DJ at Snobs on a Tuesday night and the music was always outstanding.

Hello Old & Grey, Erskine was one of a kind, he was always pleasant and friendly, I never once heard him use bad language and he knew his trade. Although I have been to The Diskery for a few years now, I am told that Jimmy is behind the counte.

That was the old Post Office that was on the corner of St Martins Street. Went there a couple of times, not my sort of club.

On the subject of the Rainbow Casino, I used to live in Portland Road remember going there a few times.
This thread is really bring back memories.
Bit off topic but this came to mind.
I used to sell Hot Dogs from a barrow on pitches all over the town centre and on my nights off I went clubbing.
I always remember a bloke who also lived in Portland Road coming up to me on evening and moaning he had missed his Night Service Bus. So being the thoughtful person I was I said I'd give him a lift home. As I push my barrow down Albert Street he passed comment, I could buy and sell people like you! I thought you're drunk sunshine and carried on pushing. I arrived at the yard cashed up and went out to meet the guy who was waiting outside. He said "OK where's the wreck you're giving me a lift in ? I walked over to my nearly new Rover 2000 and said "Do you want a lift or not?" He didn't say a word save for thank you when I dropped him off.
I also knew Pat Roach and met Larry Adler, he had lost his harmonica and wanted to buy a new one urgently, so who does he ask the Hot Dog man. I told him where he could get one, a shop in Needless Alley.
I sold a hot dog to Richard Chamberlin outside the Rep in Station Street late one night.
I went to Mothers, The West End, Castaways, Snobs, Night & Day, Rebeccas, Samanthas, The Tower Ballroom I could go on but many of the clubs have already been covered.
Just a thought does anyone remember one Barry Parker?

1967 through until 1978 all over the town centre both for Teds and Vincents. I did sell ice cream from a barrow in the summers of 1975 and '76.
One thing I always remember that happened that springs to mind with Barry that I will never forget. I had finished work and met up with some of the guys who I knew for a coffee at the van at Snow Hill, we were all talking about heading to a club when Barry turned up in his usual over the top mood and suggested we all go to Smokey Joes in Northfield, I think it was the NS 57 so we went to the bus stop just before the bus was due to leave. Barry stopped back at the van to chat to someone. The Inspector shouted the buses off and Barry realised he was missing his bus and started to run. We were on the back of the bus a rear loading open platform yelling for him to go faster. The bus accelerated down Colmore Row with Barry a long way back. When he started to run he was at the van and the bus was the first in the in line of stops near the end of Temple Row. By the time the bus was at the Council House he was 100 yrds behind and as we turned onto the Queensway he jumped on the step. If he had taken up running he would have won medals.
