Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

How many of you brave guys are gonna own to frequenting the "Dolls Club" by Camp Hill flyover. :-[ :police:
 
Has to be the Locarno on a Satdy night - standing watchin the wimmin but too young to know why.
Then home stopping for a curry at Sheldon - memories of mate Rob pouring a jug of water over his vindaloo cos it was too hot!
 
Must have been to most Night Clubs of note but can't remember coming Home.

Came home one night in my Ford Capri next morning I found it in my garage with £200 worth of damage TRUE details to follow on request :-[
 
Yes Sylvia, The Dolca Vita was certainly across the road from The Locarno.......my two most favourite haunts
 
Locarno,Rum Runner,Peppermint place and Sloopy's on corporation St,the early 80s were my fave years ::)
 
I went to a club a few months back on broad street called Flares!!!!!!A real 70's place its FAB!!!! It made me chuckle as I imagined this was what all the clubs were like wen me mom n dad were small with their platforms on LOL. Sometimes I will see me mom n dad n have a pair of boots on or jeans and me mom will go, ooo i used to have a pair like them..lol. :D

yes, Locarno was on Hurst St...opposite where that Mr. Egg is now...
and La Dolca Vita was diagonally opposite on Smallbrook Queensway??? as it was then...
there was a subway there, then, which we had to go under to get to the 'corner' entrance.
 
WHAT IS THE SITUATION REGARDING ROOTS AND SHOOTS HOME GROWN NIGHT CLUBS TODAY?
OTHER THAN ROCK-A-HOOLA CONCUSSIVE STROBE JOBS AND OTHER TEMPESTS?
WHAT WAS THAT THURSDAY NIGHT CLUB AT THE ART NOVEAU PUB ON HILL STREET: THE EAGLE OR GOLDEN EAGLE? I SUPPOSE IT WAS RAZED IN THE INTERESTS OF MODERNITY.
 
Just remembered...one of the last nightclubs that I used to go to (in the late 70's-early 80's) was The Night And Day above a pub/bar, which was connected to old ATV?/Central studios.... (memory a bit hazy now)
I have a few photos of me and work friends there, which I might try and find and scan...

I got slung out of there (with a few others) the night before I got married.

Dunno if I've got this wrong but I believe there was a club on Hill Street, above either the Eagle or the Navigation - think it was called Crazy Horse (or summat like that), where Spencer Davis (Steve and Muff Winwood) appeared regularly.
 
Oisin I remember a documentary on TV about 5 or more years ago about Birmingham Groups and I'm sure they mentioned the Eagle and Hill Street, they also visited the Pub.

"Spencer Davis played solo guitar spots at the Golden Eagle pub on Hill Street in Birmingham which was at that time a hangout for the city's rhythm and blues enthusiasts. It was there where he met the Winwood brothers while they were performing on stage as the Muff-Woody Jazz Band in early 1963. Steve Winwood was aged 15 at the time but he posessed a vocal style that was way beyond his years and was also talented as an instrumentalist and alternated between guitar and piano on stage."

Lived in Solihull (ok the outskirts eg Elmdon) and used to go to (I think) La Parisienne - think that was Hill St - it might be a casino now?

Any night club I went in to I never remember comimg out of and I used to do it at the same time as I'm writing letter SAD AIN'T IT >:( :( ??? :-[ :-\T IT
 
The Oxford Club Moseley, there was another club a bit further up on the corner of School Rd. :-\
 
La Parisenne was a pub off fore street . It was done out like a french something or other with Can Can type decorations it had two floors and a balcony on the top floor so you could look down on the dance floor below.
It was opposite the Windsor pub. It was the local for the staff from Rackhams who would go in there at 5.30 straight from work . The Lewis,s went into the Cabin.
 
What about "The Dolls Club " near Camp Hill Flyover. >:D

Dolls Club. 
Challenge taken Postie.  Anyone recall Monique an Afro stripper who used put on a show there in about 1966?  The girls used to float between the Dolls and the strip club up Handsworth - forget its name
 
Before it was Mothers the club in Erdington high street was the Carlton Club(that takes me back a long,long time)

Remember Raymond Froggatt playing at the Chesterfield Club, Chester Rd, Castle Bromwich close to where Aldi supermarket is now.

What was the name of the club in the Swan centre that caused a stir in the 70s with topless waitresses?.
