Hi, I used to work at Maison Celeste ~ shown in the picture. I worked there in 1961. The shop front was more modern than in the picture and it was a hairdressers. The shops were on the left not far past the roundabout (if its still there!) Further along on the same side was a cinema. The shops are situated just past a side road on the left. (when facing going into Birmingham) The bike shop is on the corner.

You might have cut my Mom's hair, she used to go there!

Loving the hair, and the coat, too, looks like Mohair. Where was the photo taken Barbara ?

The cinema would have been the Odeon at that time.

Hi, The photo was taken in Willenhall Memorial Park Walsall. The coat was a sort of mohair with big copper buttons. I was very proud of it. It cost £9. I will add a couple more photos to make people smile. I could become famous. I got the date wrong when I worked at Maison celeste it was 1963.

Wow you were very glamorous Barbara!

For those interested, the road to the left in Lyn's photo #932 was Broadway. This photo shows the end of the shops in Lyn's photo and those futher down Birchfield Road. It illustrates what a thriving (and elongated) shopping area Birchfield Road once was, even, as I remember it, into the 1950s and 60s. I expect the Underpass and the development of the One Stop Shopping area near Walsall Road affected many of these businesses, drawing customers to that end of Birchfield Road.
