my G Grandfather on the far right. Second from left is Victor Louis Johnson who held several world sprint records

Many years ago in the early seventies, I used to play for a boys football team based in Witton called The Wyrley Gunners. It was run by an ex Aston Villa (1938 - 46) player called George Lunn. George was quite an imposing tall man and I always remember him in his Trilby hat and trench coat. George passed away in January, 2000 aged 84.

Aston Villa crazy Prince William heading to Midlands to talk about referees
The Prince of Wales will visit a referee training course next week as part of a campaign to recruit more people from black, Asian and mixed heritage backgrounds into refereeing roles.
William, who is patron of the Football Association, will visit the course at Sporting Khalsa FC in Willenhall on Tuesday March 11.
The visit is a part of the FA’s Reflective and Representative Campaign.
A nice touch from last night's game at Villa Park that was again attended by Prince William and that ended with a 3-0 win and qualification for the Champions League quarter final was the banner below.
It was unfurled on the Holte End last night prior to kick-off and it included the Gas Lamp under which the club was ignited, as well as the captains who have lifted major trophies, over the years. Namely, European Cup-winning captain Dennis Mortimer (1982). League Championship captains John Devey (1894, 1896 & 1897), Jimmy Crabtree (1899 & 1900), Joe Bache (1910) and Dennis Mortimer (1981). FA Cup-winning skippers Archie Hunter (1887), John Devey (1895 & 1897), Howard Spencer (1905), Joe Bache (1913), Andy Ducat (1920) and Johnny Dixon (1957). League Cup winning-captains Vic Crowe (1961), Ian Ross (1975), Chris Nicholl (1977), Kevin Richardson (1994) and Andy Townsend (1996):

Sadly we lost the last of our FA Cup winning team of 1957 on Sunday, when Peter McParland passed away, aged 91. Peter scored both of Villa's goals in our 2-1 Wembley win against Manchester United's "Busby Babes". Peter's brace of goals brought the cup back to Villa Park for what was then, a record seventh time and we are still awaiting our eighth. Peter also became the first player to score in both cup finals in 1961, when he scored our winner in the first League Cup final.
Peter was born in Newry and was capped for Northern Ireland 34 times, appearing at the 1958 World Cup finals in Sweden, at which he scored 5 goals. He joined Villa in 1952 and scored 121 goals in his 341 games in the claret & blue. Peter played on the left wing and also at centre forward, during his 10 years at the club.
Peter regularly returned to Villa Park over the years from his home on the South coast. He also regularly attended Villa matches including the 2015 FA Cup Final and attended an exhibition marking the club's 150th anniversary at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in January. Peter said, "I loved playing for the club" and we loved having him playing for us. RIP Peter, HEITS!
