Address plaques and nameplates for Terraces, Villas, Places etc

I think there might possibly have been various ways of fixing plaques to walls. Two missing plaques below, one fixed with something the other clean as a whistle (or maybe the fixing agent has been removed). Just an observation as I've seen quite a few where the fixing agent has been left behind.

Love the Woodville Street ones Dinger. Giving your house a single name probably hinted at living in a stately home, although they're in a terrace of several similar houses !

You mentioned early plaques. The earliest I've come across so far (1862,1863 and 1865) are these, all in Albert Road, Handsworth.

Albert Place 1862, 151 Albert Road
Ernest House 1863, 59 Albert Road
Moorcroft Place 1865, 180 Albert Road

One very unusually named plaque is this one:

Salathiel, 215 Albert Road

Also in Albert Road are some more ornate plaques. At a glance I thought some might have mini gargoyles on the bottom corners, but not sure. In contrast, there's a very plain plaque (Elgin Villas) which looks similar to victorian metal road signs

Albany Villas, 218 Albert Road
Lorne Villas, 224 Albert Road
Wolesley Villas, 224 Albert Road
Seymour Villas, 230 Albert Road
Grove Villas, 232 Albert Road
Sandhurst Villas, 240 Albert Road
Elgin Villas, 303 Albert Road

Numbers given for addresses are those nearest to the plaque and where a clear view is possible on Streetview
Pretty sure those are Aston, not Handsworth. I grew up in one of those houses with the plaque above the passage. Alas, Salathiel is no more.

Off topic I'm afraid as this does not have a name on it (unless there is something I've missed hidden in the brickwork)- Just an interesting plaque and brickwork slowly disintegrating - sitting above a gateway between 530 and 532 Moseley Road, Balsall Heath. - Sheep? Lion? Cow? Camel?

I have done a small search of this thread but am unable to find what I'm looking for. My husband's grandfather and parents were living at Prospect Villas, Hillaries Road, Erdington on the 1901 Census. Can anyone show me where that might have been please?

hi judy i decided to do a google street view walk of hillaries road and managed to find prospect villas..click on link below and zoom in and you will see the name plaque on the wall..difficult to tell which house your husbands grandad lived in ..could be either the house to the left or right of the entry...unless the 1901 gives you a number ?

Further to Gladstone Road Sparkbrook in post #107, the B&W image shows a small plaque above the entrance to #36 Gladstone Road. However it's not legible in either the old photo or modern Streetview. Possibly the residents of long ago took it on themselves to name their home.

Some friends who now live on Anglesey have this 'Holly Place' sign - I don't know the original location but it might have come from an area being demolished. It has block letters screwed (or nailed) to the backing, and appears very old. Their last home in Birmingham was on Warwick Road, Tyseley.
