    Camera film processing in Birmingham

I remember well the efforts to protect exposed film from the light when removing it from the camera. 127 and 620 films were prone to winding loosely. Before investing in a proper darkroom bag, I folded up a rain coat around the camera then by inserting my hands and arms up the sleeves the wrong...

    Black and white to colour!

A well exposed and processed black and white picture cannot be beaten. just look at Ansel Adams prints. They have stood the test of time and would be spoilt if they were colourised.

Yes Ilford did make a colour film, it was called Ilfacolor. It was awful, it might have originated in Eastern Europe or Italy. It was certainly similar to Orwo or could have been Ferraniacolor. Incidentally Orwo make incredibly good B&W film and are a major supplier of 16mm and 35mm cine film.

They were small because the paper they were printed on was a long roll having been exposed the roll was taken out of the printing machine in to the processing lab where it was developed and fixed still on the roll. It was not cut until the pictures had been dried. The paper rolls came in various...

3RD CAR PARK TO BE DEMOLISHED

We use to have regular trips to Birmingham. Old shopping habits die hard. But the city centre is now a disaster area as far as we are concerned, even trips to the jewellery quarter have now been stopped. For shopping areas to be successful they have to have quick free and convenient parking...

THE WINTERS OF 47 AND 63

Great picture with lots of atmosphere , in the years before long trousers I used to hate getting “Chaps on my legs”. Sore fingers and thumbs were cured with “Melrose,“ It’s still available today but unfortunately no longer. 1/3d that’s one shilling and three pence.

THE WINTERS OF 47 AND 63

My earliest memories were of the snow, in 1947, and dad chasing me around the kitchen table, all wrapped up in our coats and scarfs. Mom was in hospital following the birth of my younger brother. Dad did not light the coal fire he was trying to preserve the stock we had for when mom came home...
