Was at the bus stop this morning and saw a very new looking vehicle that looked remarkably like a tuk tuk. It was painted green and had some "
Green" slogan (cant remember exactly) on the rear , and seemed to belong to a small local food company. so maybe they are coming back. Don't think I;d like to be in one on a busy road though

they are very popular now mike but they sure are a lot of dosh. so companies rent them.

i had a couple of isetta bubble cars. lh and rh drive on the passengers side behind the side trim was a huge lump of iron to counter balance the thing when only a driver was in the car to stop it turning over on bends

Excellent article! Surprising how many things we take for granted. That is indeed a significant breakthrough.
 
I used to pop into stirchley motorcycles to get my bits for my 50cc chop. Until having a row regarding having to ride with your main beam on. I moved on to vale onslows and r&g spares. Blimey r&g spares. Only place you could risk your life digging for bits. Lol
 
Used to go to Oxfords for complete bikes. I thought they were less bad but I think I was wrong!
I bought my first bike from Garrets in 1955, a 1932 Francis Barnet 250cc cruiser non runner for £7.50. Pushed it home to Sparkhill, and with neighbors help got it going,after a fashion.
Sold it for £10.00 and bought a 1934 hand change BSA 250, which got me to the BSA in Small Heath where I served my apprentiship, 1954 to 1960.
Worked Saturday mornings at Copes on Hagley road as a mechanic, and since then had scores of bikes and still ride a Fazer 600, and a member of Kings Norton Motorcycle Club, stayed with Roy Hanks when he raced an outfit at the TT.
I have so many stories from over 65 years of motorcycling I could write a book.
My mother named me after a speedway rider at Hall Green speedway [nee dogtrack] in 1938,.

My first bike was also a non runner parts bike. Had a 125cc BSA engine & gear box with hand change in a mongrel home spun frame rigid suspension. I think I paid about 5 pounds little or no paint, really ugly! Kept it for a couple of months, to call it unreliable was too kind and try as I did (and friends) could not get it right!

Yes but look at the memories you have now. Don't suppose you got any pics
 
I had so much fun learning about bikes. No internet to cheat with lol. And 2nd hand parts were so easy to get hold of ( r&g spares). Bike shops of today do take away some of the fun. Most shop workers haven't a clue about bikes. They just look for a part number on the screen and show no interest.
After a bad bike accident in 1994 I decided to build the chop I have now. I popped into r&g spares and the guy sold me a frame and log book for £25. A few years later I was riding a gp100 hardtail chop with a gsxr1100 engine.
 
lowrider we built bikes/ trikes out of bits of bikes and piggies. put a1600 ford escort engine in a bike frame. a bike with a invalid car engine. when it started it went backwards or forwards. no one walks around nowin m/c shops with a cigar or fag in the corner of there mouth coughing while looking for bits for you.like v/onslow and c&d did. I'm sat in the dentist and the only person with a big grin lol. Did you ever go up the breedon. I bet the escort bike was a beast. The old days were the best. What neck of the woods was you from.
