Hi Vic, yes it was Bob. My Dad's name is Don and they worked together for a number of years. I don't recall exactly when but they moved from Stirchley to Selly Oak and set up Kawasaki City more or less where the site of the Lookers dealership is now, opposite the old Selly Oak Cinema. I remember a pub next door but can't remember what it was called. Was the owner of Stirchley Motorcycles Bobby Perkins?

thanks Bob.I've been in the shop bought never purchased anything.
They sell Chinese motorcycles that are derived from a Honda design.
The bikes are cheap and cheerful, I see a lot of these during my motorcycling ventures. The owners speak well of them i.e good value for money.
It could have been the late Stan Dilke who was parts manager when I worked there in 1971.What was the name of the skinny long haired guy at Cole's ? I had a Suzuki 80 in 1969 and went there to look for a bigger tank to make the bike look different. He sent me on my own up into the attic to have a look at the old tanks up there. I found a nice maroon Triumph Speed Twin tank complete with it's little luggage grid and I paid about £6 for it. I never did fit it though as I had no welder in those days and could not mount the tank safely without welding on brackets.
Fred hankshi bikeral both of my sons use fred hanks on slade road quite a lot...still a small family run business but are always very helpful..

not bad..,,as Bob , said cheap and cheerful.Looks like a nice set up! Thanks,
great scooters i had a few. they looked good without the tin side panels onI bought my 1st Scooter in 1959 from Chambers in Sutton.
It was a BSA Sunbeam 250cc 4 stroke like the one shown below, only mine was light blue.
Had some adventures with it - 75mph on the Chester Rd north.
A cow chewed most of it's seat off while I was flying a model aeroplane in Sutton Park, and the scooter was shortened by about 12 inches when I pulled up behind a car on Sutton Parade, and a car ran into the back of me.
I notice my licence says I'm still qualified to ride a motorbike ! Some hopes...

I don't think it was, I know Dave Manners moved into the premises in 1998 but I'm not sure who had it in between.Bob Joyners place must not have been there much after that. Harvey Porter worked for him. He rode the IoM a few times.
yer it was just down from the college on the same side going towards bham city centreAnyone seen any of Joseline G's Birmingham walkabouts on YT? Fabulous social documents. Anyway, sad to see there's still just a great big gap on the corner of Stratford Road and Kyotts Lake Lane where Vale-Onslow's used to be. Remember popping in there back in the early 1990s on the pretence of buying something for my bike but really just to savour the atmosphere of a shop that had hardly changed in half a century.
Just wondering, does anyone know where the Vale-Onslow shop was on Soho Road in Handsworth?
