Ghost signs of Birmingham

If you go to the 2008 view on Google then it says "Metal Merchant" under Harry Fisher.

Photo 7 I think I can make out the word Plate!
 
It seems mention of these signs in Hack Street are recorded much earlier in this thread. We seem to have put more flesh onto these signs but still haven't come to a firm conclusion about Allcock Street.
 
excellent photos brian thank you...driven or walked past many times and never noticed the ghost signs:rolleyes:...also great shot of the tiled staircase as well...will be down that way again very shortly so i am going to slowly walk the length of constitution hill and gt hampton st down as far as hockley flyover as there maybe something new to see...best get these things done before we lose them..

Great photos Brian, I have cut the one photo down, I think maybe the T shaped part may say
"Manufacture "
"Specialist"
"case"
"Goods"T shape.jpeg
 
I am sure now at the very top of the ghost sign is says ........ Co. and the company name appears to begin with C or G I think. Further examination has shown up that to the left of the specialist cased goods there are other words including one slanting up from bottom left to top right and you can see that on the picture above. Try as I might I can’t make out what it may say!
Here are this mornings efforts!
PS just re-reading earlier posts and Chas Savage as per the Kelly’s Directory fits the bill I think. More research coming up for me!!!

This photo shows the ghost sign must have been painted over then as it is above where the cafe in this photo was!
 
Been around a long while Brian, usually only found in large houses and villas. Mostly made of wooden slats in the past but more modern ones were usually made in aluminium. I believe there are/were cheap plastic ones. However, wooden slats have made a comeback.

Only talking about him the other day. I think he had a salon in town but cannot remember where. Did he also do TV appearances too? I was told that it was quite expensive at his place

He did have an outlet in Birmingham. I never went there. Apparently he made a cameo appearance on Crossroads. Viv.
 
Junction of Tarry Road and Gowan Road Saltley. Think it reads “....... General Provision Stores” . Seems to now be a house. Viv.

I believe the top word could well have been the shopkeepers name, when the sign was painted. The word underneath looks very much like "THE". I like the corbelling.
 
I'm fairly sure that Teasy-Weasy had a salon on Colmore Row opposite the church. I think you had to go downstairs to the salon.
 
This one on Washwood Heath Road looks handmade. Or maybe it’s an impression left of the letters fixed on top of them ? Viv.

The 1957 phone book has this entry. (Not listed in 1960s). The street view from 2012 showed it in better condition. I suspect it was covered over until about that date then exposed to the elements.

I must admit I thought it said "M & R"..... On the 2012 view it is clearly Marjorie so I then did a trawl through a selection of phone books on Ancestry. If I get chance I will try to see when it first appeared - although not all the years are online.
