Edgbaston Reservoir

I was a cadet on Training Ship (TS) Leopard, we used to see TS Vernon as our rivals. There were quite a few of these cadet groups, used as a gathering net for the forces.

Unfortunately, my naval career aspirations got sunk….

We wanted to visit the Reservoir today but there was a gate across the entrance. I wondered if there was anything happening at the Tower yet.
rosie.

rosie those gates have been there for some time but you can still walk down to the res...think they are only there to stop cars using what used to be the car park..i paid a visit a couple of weeks ago and the tower was still ther so demo has not started yet

Thanks lyn, we used to park inside by the railings and watch the birds. It's difficult for him to walk these days! My cousin was asking about the Tower so now I can tell her.
My grandparents lived in Daisy Road when they were first married, it must have been beautiful then.
rosie.

yes rosie it must have been a lovely spot years ago..ive used the tower on and off since the 70s and there is still dismay at its impending demolition but as we all know history counts for nothing these days

That used to be the side for the Bream. Fishing at the Reza as we used to call it in the 70s/80s Jack Charlton turned up as we fishing a Parks Final with Starlets, he said he was going to a 1966 reunion but he would rather watch us fishing. He stayed then came to the new BAA headquarters for a beer at the end.

”Boating enthusiasts in Edgbaston Reservoir in the early 1900's, the building in the background was the Roller Skating Rink later the Tower Ballroom. Then it had tiered gardens around the side and front of the building.”

Looking at the photos seems like the reservoir has been a centre for a number of leisure pursuits. Viv.
