Hi, I remember a hardware shop in Aston, it stood opposite the ITV television studio, it was owned by Ansells Brewery and was called (The Big Broom). For a while after leaving the Army, i drove for a hardware wholesaler in Aston (or possibly Nechells) & for the life of me i can`t remember the name of the firm. Can anyone help?
Thanks, Smudger.
Thanks Steve, but this was a wholesaler, & i used to load the wagon with barb wire, nails etc. & deliver round Worcester, Hereford, Gloucester, as well as Brum. I could change my deliveries around so i could park up in Worcester & do a couple of hours fishing. Great job..Hi, I remember a hardware shop in Aston, it stood opposite the ITV television studio, it was owned by Ansells Brewery and was called (The Big Broom).
Foulkes doesn`t ring a bell. For some reason i have Paton & Baldwin going round in my head, but a google of that name only brings up things to do with knitting yarn. Thanks anyway. Was it Foulkes ....or similar,
Baldwin & Mason!! Well done Postie & a big thank you.AD Foulkes in Cheston Rd, they had several depots, I worked at their Stratford Rd depot..
There was also Baldwin and mason, Lancaster St, Aston..
I think i left there in 68. Did you manage that awful reverse onto the loading bay?Baldwins and Masons was in Cheston road when I started work for them in 1968. They then became Frys Tools and then RCF Tools.
I was only 15 when I started and worked in the goods inwards and warehouse, then worked in the buying office as a stock checker, then asst. Buyer and Buyer.I think i left there in 68. Did you manage that awful reverse onto the loading bay?
