  • HI folks the server that hosts the site completely died including the Hdd's and backups.
    Luckily i create an offsite backup once a week! this has now been restored so we have lost a few days posts.
    im still fixing things at the moment so bear with me and im still working on all images 90% are fine the others im working on now
    we are now using a backup solution

Ashton, Cyril Carlton of South Yardley

H.M.S. Courageous, an aircraft carrier, was torpedoed just off the coast of Ireland on 17th September 1939 just 3 days prior to this picture being taken.
 
He was quite possibly in shock/trauma at the time of the photo then. The very sad thing is that I believe not many survived Courageous (over 500 lives lost) and he’d have been back in action around a week later. So I do hope he survived the War. Viv.
