Nice bit of detective worth. Thanks for posting. A story from when the building was an operational fire station. There was a problem backing into the appliance room, the wireless aerial kept fouling the ceiling. So, the Station Officer in his wisdom chopped 6 inches off the aerial, then wondered why he couldn't raise Fire Control. He should have known that the length of the aerial is dependent on the Brigade wireless frequency. He had a job to live that down. This is the property now, it's given as 129 on Google

My Grandfather William (Bill) Cheshire played on the Band 1930 on Clarinet. I think he is the four man along from the right. Here is a picture from the 1929-30 City of Birmingham Handbook of the Fire Brigade Band.

Hi, my great grandfather was Walter Hayes, he was the father of my Grandma Olive Annie Ellis (Nee Hayes). She never spoke of her father and I have only very recently discovered this Fire Service connection. Would it be possible to arrange to meet if you are still a member of the WMFS Heritage Group?Hi Ian just found your request for info on Lingard Street and Walter Hayes, I have Walters and one of his sons medals plus lots of letters and postcards relating to the family. I am a member of the WMFS Heritage Group based at Ettington Road old fire station we meet on Tuesdays 9.30-2.0 so come down and see us and we can show you Walters service records.
