Iommi family

Yes not sure if you’ve seen on tree, someone sourced a photo of her for me a while ago, probably the oldest photo I’ve got so far :)

is it possible that the census was not filled out? John perca had passed by 1914, could he have not come here at all, but Alexandra did? I’m not sure
Suzanne - as far as I can see your tree is private so we can't see anything on it.

Why do you have an Elizabeth Barker as the mother of Alexandra Perca?

Also the wife of Richard Foster and the mother of Alfred Henry appears to have been an Elizabeth Fenton.

Elizabeth barker had Alexandra perca out of wedlock with John perca. She went on to marry a foster, and had three children, one being Alfred Henry foster, he fought in the war and died in France, some family went to see his grave a few months back. The relation is right as we have some personal items of Alfred.

The mother of Alfred Henry, Rose (Rosina) and George was Elizabeth Fenton. She married Richard Foster in 1896 and on the 1901 census her mother, Eliza Fenton, is living with them.

I can see that is another Alfred Henry Foster who died WWI but his mother married a Frank Barker in 1914. So she would either have been a Foster or something else before she married a Foster.

So its the second one, to be honest her name Elizabeth Barker and the photo was sourced by family, not ancestry, I assumed Barker was her maiden name, but maybe she married a barker, split and married a foster, and had Alexandra perca somewhere in-between? she was a bit of a floozy so I heard :)

No, she had Alfred Henry Foster before she married Frank Barker.

Frank and Elizabeth are together at Ronald Road (the address listed with Alfred' death) in 1921 and 1939.

And I've just noticed that Frank was a boarder of Charles and Clara Miles in 1911.

Right perhaps she had Alexandra first out of wedlock, then had all the foster children, then married and settled down with Frank Barker? Ive got them all on the tree but no barker husband. thought that was her maiden name.
perhaps she met him when he was a boarder.

Got it!

Elizabeth Smith b1875 married Luciano Pechio, reg. Jun qtr 1895 Aston.

Had 3 children Allesandra (reg. Dec 1895 Bham), Violet (reg. Dec 1896 Bham, d1897) & Alfred Henry (reg. Jun 1898 Bham).

Elizabeth married Alfred William Foster, reg. Jun qtr 1908 Bham (as Perchia).

Elizabeth married Frank Barker, reg. Jun qtr 1914 Aston.

Not sure what happened to Luciano or Alfred William Foster and don't know why Alexandra gave her father's name as John when she married.

As Alfred Henry's name is Foster when he dies he may not have been a Pecchio.

Some of the marriages are on Ancestry.

Elizabeth's father was a Henry Smith and on the 1921 census with Frank and Elizabeth is a Margaret Smith listed as a niece.

Jane Varaca is Elizabeth's sister.

Elizabeth, Alexandra and Albert are on the 1901 census as Perchia (Alexandra is listed as Alexander) with parents and sister in Bham.

There mother was born is listed as USA, though in 1911 it's Newdoundland. Though I'd like to find them earlier to see if she is mother or step mother.

Got them in 1911 as well, they are listed in Warwick St, Deritend I think as Smith. Alexandra is again listed as Alexander & Alfred Henry as Alfred William.

Elizabeth is listed as a widow and there is no sign William Alfred Foster.

so can I clarify as im a bit lost, Elizabeth who I have listed as Barker, her maiden name is smith. She married three times. The first husband did she have three children with, including Alexandra?
she then re married again, and again to a Barker? and you don't know what happened to the first two husbands?
The surname Perca I believed to be Alexandra father, I still think this is right because ive always been told she was a child out of wedlock and she only had half siblings?

Yes, for the most part. The spelling of Perca varies and I'd guess it was more likely to be Pechio to begin with,

Elizabeth married a Luciano Pechio in 1895. There are 3 Pechio/Smith births registered including Alexandra (as Allesandra),

In 1901 Elizabeth, Alexandra and Alfred are living with her parents and her sister. She is listed as Perchia and married, no sign of Luciano.

Elizabeth then marries William Alfred Foster in 1908. One of the witnesses is her sister Jane who has married a Henry Veraca.

In 1911 Elizabeth, Alexandra and Alfred are living on Warwick St. They are all listed as Smith and Elizabeth is listed as a widow. No sign of William Foster and it maybe that they are listed as Smith because she has left him.

In 1914 Elizabeth marries Frank Barker. In 1911 Frank was listed as a boarder of her future son in law's family.

In 1916 Elizabeth is mentioned as the mother of Alfred Henry Foster who died in WWI. Address is given as 39 Ronald Road. Why he is listed as Foster I don't know.

In 1921 Elizabeth and Frank Barker are at 39 Ronald Road and with them is a niece, Margaret Smith.

And finally in 1939 Elizabeth and Frank are still at 39 Ronald Road.

There are still some things to clear up, like where she was before her marriage and what happened to her first 2 husbands but I think that's her from her first marriage onwards.

Alexandra was the eldest of the Pechio/Smith children and it may be that some of the things you were told have got a little muddled over the years or they were deliberately changed because Elizabeth may have still been married when she married again. Just speculation though.

Is he Alfred William as on marriage cert or William Alfred?

wow that's really detailed info, thanks so much. Im going to add everything you've said onto the tree and if you wouldn't mind checking over when you have time to check ive entered it correctly, I do understand what you've said BUT knowing me ill still get confused.
so the name Perchia was changed to Perca.

I wouldn't say it was deliberately changed, just probably how they said it and how it was recorded.

Depending how long Luciano was around for Alexandra may not have known him. I am assuming that she was his daughter and giving her father's name as John was just a mistake.

so Elizabeth smith had 3 children with pechio, 2 with foster I have confirmed, George & rose and non with Barker
quite a big difference between John and Luciano... but must be same person. Its crazy because my nan use to call her nanny Barker.. I think everyone assumed that was her maiden name.

Why was Alfred put as a Foster?! bizarre

No, George and Rose are not her children, they are the children of a Richard Foster and an Elizabeth Fenton. They also had a son, Alfred Henry Foster of a very similar age to Alfred Henry Pechio which is where the confusion may arise.

blimey ok, so just to confirm the Alfred Henry Foster, who died in French in the war is A child of Henry and Elizabeth Fenton, so the family that went to see his grave not long ago , he isn't even related, only through marriage?

No, he is definitely the right person. The details on his page on the CWGC all match except his name.

For some reason he enlisted as Alfred Henry Foster. It may be he wasn't the son of Luciano (or Alfred Foster for that matter) and thought it easier to enlist under Foster rather than Pechio.

His service records appear to have survived.
