people in the enterainment world

Hey love this. sometimes i was a mod and sometimes a rocker. depended which boy i liked the rockers hung out at Alex's i think and you'd often find the mods by the
Silver Blades ice rink.i didn't hang out with any of those..i was to young, but the boys
where i lived more my age,
the townies were a little later i think

I was a Mod and rode a Lambretta LI150

Brummiegaffer,

Welcome to the forum and you are quite right everyone on here is really friendly and I think that you should take 'dek' with a pinch of salt.

When this thread started I was away on holiday so missed out on it. I was definitely a 'Mod' in the mid 60's and I too ran around on a Lambretta LI 150; great machine and great times were had. I was also a racing cyclist that during the week raced and trained at SalfordPark cycle track, now long gone and buried somewhere under 'Spaghetti Junction'. The carrier that housed the spare wheel at the back I fashioned into a bike rack and could carry two track bikes and four wheels. After work I would 'phut phut' to Salford Park with two bikes, my girl friend and with my clothing bag between my feet! At the weekend we would use my LI 150 to go ice skating at the Silver Blades and one night the 'rockers' demolished my scoot that was parked outside!

Graham.

Astonian I too was a mod and can remember my two tone purple mac very long it was too. I knew a few of the Alley cats in fact the so called leader lived in my road. He was the one named Pussy. I was going out with a lovely bloke and on his way home they beat him up as they said he was going out with one of the girls from their patch. Hence that was the end of that and I don't blame him. The ones by us were the Wooten bros and I went out with one of them for a short time. We used to use the Golden Cross and both mods and rockers went there but there were quite a few fights. TTFN. Jean.

Hi jean
nice to hear from you again and more so that you was a mod i certainly remember the whences wearing those macs and i seem to recall the wootens
and i most certainly remember pussy and regards the golden cross there
was always a good knock up up regardless what group was with in there
even in the teddy boys days at the cross saturday night was fight night
the old man [ father] whom used to work there as the head barman
and run it for dodds always came back and told us of the fights and how he walked amongest them loking for the inciters and he would see some-body sitting down and with a pint jug in there hand ready to throw it he would say i,ll take that to them
and throw them out and mother used to tell us when she went down
he would knock them out cold and have them ready for the police with the black maria to come and take them to steel house lane and she said that they would say thanks bill to him theres always been skirmishes at the cross
she also tell us how she caught him snocking another women up the billard hall
also how she caught him in the arms of mrs mason from across the rd
whom i beleive she ran the off licence in rocky lane
and there was a row between them
the old man was a big fellow and he had big hands like joe bugner he was big hands like shovels
jean what was pete ; ?. mod or rocker.
speak to you soon astonian ;;

Alan that gave me a laugh. Talk about the good old days. Patty who did start those fights?. Pete was a mod Alan but never had one of those hair dryers. [scooters]. He had a motor bike before I met him and his mom chained it to a lamp post when she caught him speeding down Witton road. She was five foot nothing slim but those four lads new who the boss was but they had respect for her and that is what is lacking today don't you think. Pussy is the one I went out with for a while but we went to school together so did the Harrises and they always looked out for me. Not that I neaded it but it was good to know they were there for me. Take care. Jean.

Do you remember the 'scooter' fashion for green, military parkas bedecked with dangling fox, ferret and weasel tails???

I do John but the thing I remember the most from those days was when there was a meeting up of the two sides and a police dog was killed and after that I didn't care what I was classed as and decided to become myself. Bye. Jean.

Jean it was one of the lads from the large family in the street M A ring any bells? who was pussy???

I was neither having no wish to kill myself on a Bike (My brother had a BSA250 cc), but I did tend to go for Mod styles. Had a "PierreCardin" suit from John Temple in the bullring nice fitted jacket like steed in the avengers,
Funnily enough my daughter is a mod, she DJ's soul music for the mod scene in London abd comes home occasionally to DJ in Birmingham. There is still a mod scene in Italy,Belgium and Germany.

Re: Mods & Rockers

I was a normals.
I collected all records which I liked thats about it also I had the Army to deal with for 2 years couldn't have a DA on parade. Couldn't have anything if the Barber was in a bad mood. :steaming:

Alf,

I was going to say it, but you said it for me: some of us didn't have a chance to be mods or rockers. We were too busy doing National Service.

In any case, I don't think my Sergeant-Major would have tolerated us riding those little motor-scooters onto the parade ground...!

Cheers,

pedlarman
